Decoding my 1967 GMC VIN...yikes!!!

So, after much help for many here I was able to find the VIN stamped into the frame right where it was supposed to be. Here it is:

8T138957

That's it! Just 8 characters total. I have read on here the GMC VIN's are weird and ya'll are right. So is there a way for me to find out exactly what this means or am I just totally screwed?

The frame vin is only a partial vin. 8=1968
T=Tarrytown
partial vin Thats how my chevy reads.

So I have a 68 Chevy, plain and simple. So the guy I bought from was either lying or stupid!

Well you have a 67 drive train, or at least tranny. Does the number match your title?

All i have is a rolling chassis with the full powertrain. No complete VIN, no title I got nothing. The man I bought this from said it was a 67 GMC 4x4 chassis so I just wanted to confirm it. Now I don't have a clue what the hell i got. This blows!

OK, so this is how it should break down.
The last numbers 138957 are the last digits of the vin number (the production number for the plant where it was built.)
If it is a chevy you could try and get a GM restoration package which might have more details on it.
THERE IS NO WAY OF TELLING IF IT WAS A CHEVY OR GMC WITHOUT THE FIRST FEW DIGITS.

So in short, I know whatever it was it's a 68, but has a 67 SM420 tranny.

So now I will move forward with plan B and restore this truck to be a replica of my Dad's 69. Or, I just want it to appear to be a 69 or 70. Thanks again everyone!
