What is this thing?
I am cleaning up the friewall of all wires/and uneccessary stuff, what can I get rid of in this pic? I don't plan on using stock ac/heat but it has to stay until I get the aftermarket kit. What is the ball thingy in the middle of the pic? What else can I remove butstill retain the heat/defrost portion of it?

Re: What is this thing?
It stores vacuum that operates the vacuum actuators for the ducts.

Re: What is this thing?
So I need to keep it for the heat to work right?

Re: What is this thing?
Yes, or the heat will just go to the floor and not to the window. There should also be line going to the manifold.

On my 78, that canister is more squared off than that one, but it serves the same purpose. Currently all the hoses are plugged and tie-wrapped out of the way, because I don't know where they should go. Any pix of the end points of the two lines coming off that canister?

Re: What is this thing?
our trucks dont have vacuum actuators for the heat and defrost. its probably for emmission or cruise control. my bet woud be emmission.

There is nothing you can remove in the pic and retain heat/defrost. You need the blower motor, resistor block, heater core and vacuum canister. What kind of aftermarket unit are you installing? I'm looking one for my dads' truck.

Re: What is this thing?
Vintage air has a bolt in kit but you need heat only controls for it.
