Big hello and is this a decent deal

Hi fellers. Just dropping by to get some advice from the experts. Family friend in Texas wants $3k for this truck like it sits. Im just looking for something to spend about 5 years worth of spare time on with my son. Guy claims he has close to 10k in the motor itself and Im not sure if I believe him or not. I know he's a hell of alot better engine builder than body man (airplane stripper) because he builds racing motors for modified stock cars and claims to have used alot of those same parts in this motor. Body is completely straight, only surface rust on undercarriage, unknown mileage but that doesnt matter to me. He started the motor and it definitely sounds hot but it is not to the point where I can drive it obviously. Says it has a 350 turbo tranny with a 4500 stall converter but I cannot confirm that until i see the paperwork. He has all the parts to put it back together including some sort of wing window removal / power windows kit. Either way, by the looks of it, putting it back together would only happen after I took it all the way back apart. I have a thing for shiny black frames. Let me know if you think this is a good deal or not. Im going to post a few more pics below.

notice no a/c, p/s, p/b at all either. Not that its a big deal but if I can get something better for 3 grand I will. Pretty set on 67 - late 80s swb chevy though. If no on this one, I'm looking for a 77-79 swb.

It's definetly worth the 3k....in my book.

$3k the way that it sits? Not in today's market.

Re: Big hello and is this a decent deal

im thinking the price is mostly the motor. He said something about selling that to me for 2500 by itself.

I wouldn't buy it for that price ,,but hey! I like a bed and tail gate too.. lots to do to finish it up ,,maybe around 10k + the 3k would be close to finish it to get it looking good ,,but not many thrills ..and providing you go lesser on painting costs..

Re: Big hello and is this a decent deal

ok, so general concenus is no. I'm an easy man to convince. I kinda wanted to build my own motor anyways, that the part my son is most interested in. On with the search for 77-79 swb.

Re: Big hello and is this a decent deal

Another no.* I would rather start with a solid shell and build the motor.* Without the motor, that truck wouldn't be worth much more than scrap.

Re: Big hello and is this a decent deal

3,000 will buy you a nice truck, and as far as the engine goes, it is built for a race car...4500 stall, single plane intake, no choke...it would suck to drive under 3500 rpm and with that exaust it would drive me nuts !!!!!!.

Re: Big hello and is this a decent deal

I say let him keep the motor and offer him 500 for the truck. Looks like a lot of work and if you check craigslist you can find a nice truck for 3 grand. I seen a 71 west of Springfield MO for 925 that looked decent.

Re: Big hello and is this a decent deal

No way. You can get a lot of truck for $3k these days. How much of the "work" that's been done will have to be re-done?

Re: Big hello and is this a decent deal

I would say its worth it if you want a race truck because there is a lot of money in race parts there. If you wanted a street truck with a/c and a streetable motor then it would be expensive to change everything on it.

Way too pricey; even by CA standards.

Definitely not a deal for $3000

Re: Big hello and is this a decent deal

Well after getting about 46 inches of snow here in STL im thinking me and the lil one are going to look into a 4x4. I've done the low riders with an 87 long bed, ive done the hot rod with the malibu, never done a 4x4 so it may be fun.

Re: Big hello and is this a decent deal

If you want a hot rod truck, that is a good start. It's hard to tell but it looks like aluminum heads and some pretty pricey parts on that motor. Looks like B&M shifter, coilovers. Sure, you can pick up trucks for a lot less, but if you want a hot rod, let's see how much you have to dump into it to have a driveline like that. If that thing is a ground-pounder,I'd jump on it. Also, you don't have to give him asking price.
If you want to build a SERIOUS fast small block,it's going to eat up that $3000 real fast !-KB
