What should the tachometer read in idle?

Was wondering if any one knows what the tachometer should read when the truck is in idle. The engine is a V8 350 4 barrel 1968 c10....Any suggestions? :chevy:

I don't have the manual in the house but I think around 650 for a stone stock engine in neutral is pretty close.

If the truck is an automatic you don't want it to idle so fast that it trys to move the truck appreciably when you slip it into gear at an idle.

My 71 with it in park [auto] is around 700. When pulled into gear it's 500 or so.

My truck idles around 500-600 while we tuned it. Don't have a tach in the truck though.
