20 Questions with ideas on my 65' stepside
2 Attachment(s)
I was playing with Paint trying to get some direction for my truck so I have a plan when all my parts come in. I choped these up in paint, they are rough, but im no proffesional. I just need to know what parts it will take to do the static drop that is kinda shown in these pics. I dont want it layin rockers, bagged or whatever but almost exactly like the picture.
I know from doing MANY searches (for all you smart as$es) Ill need to do a minor c-notch. Im thinking 3inch blocks and 2inch springs on the back with new lowered shocks. BUT Will I have to have shock relocators? Will my drive shaft pose a problem? Do I need an adjustable panhard bar too? I dont know when all of that is required. Or if I need a different set up. For the front ..?? Drop Spindles (2 1/2"?) and 2 inch springs and shocks? I want the truck to have a some rake to it, but as low as I can go without tearing up tires and my wheels all camber'd goofy. I also chopped in a big back window because i like them. A guy off Craigslist sent me to the ebay direction and I am going to buy the big back window kit here in about 15 minutes. I wanted to see a fake picture of it first, so we will see how it does in real life. I have an extra set of rear fenders that are really bad so im going to cut a 2" band out of them and stretch the other bad ones that are on my bed now. |

and these 2 .. I hope someone on here can lead me in the right direction or has some used parts for sell. I may even be able to get away with 2 or 3 inch block in the back only and some spindles and springs up front? It doesnt seem like the back is going down as much as the front is.? You guys are the experts .. what do i need to do? Please do not reccomend bags. I just want to do a static drop.

ALSO .. what do you guys think about the back window change from the pics above? Any pro or cons for me?

Re: 20 Questions with ideas on my 65' stepside
I would go with spindles and 2" springs up front and like a 4" spring in the back to start with. That will give you a little bit of rake, and if it isn't enough then you can get some blocks or just shorter springs.

Here's what I did 2 1/2 dropped spindles and cranked the torsion bars the 5" coils at the rear however I will have to notch the rear eventually BTW the big window looks cool

Yeah if I knew how to add them

Re: 20 Questions with ideas on my 65' stepside
To get close to being as low as you have that pic chopped, you will need the spindles (2.5") and 3" lowering coils...add new shocks. For the rear you'll want at least 5" lower....whatever combo you prefer. I would shorten the panhard to about 36" ( measure to be sure) and I would relocate your shocks, too. If youre going to do this work, its not that much more to add a few pieces and get the whole thing to work correctly and ride nicely.
If you dont have disc's, they will widen your front track a little. |
Re: 20 Questions with ideas on my 65' stepside
my opinion is the small windows look good on steps and big windows look good on fleets.
I also think if you go static as low as the pic (in the front), you might have some rubbing issues. |

Re: 20 Questions with ideas on my 65' stepside
Agree 'bout the rear window. BTW, it ain't much of a a problem for me in the UK but if you live anywhere sunny and run a big window you'll find out how "rednecks" got their name! ;)
