shuttering brakes
 

hey guys i have a 97 silverado 2 wheel drive 1/2 ton with a 305 in it for my daily driver. got a question about my brakes.

it doesnt do it when im brakes from 25 or so. but when im going 45 or over and i hit the brakes gradually like im gettin ready to turn off the highway the whole trucks shakes back and forth front to back. kinda like its making contact on the brakes then letting up then contacting then letting up....

im im not sure were to look, i bought it from my cousin 2 months ago, he has had it for 3 years since 78,000 miles on it, and now it has 240,000 he said it has always done it.


any ideas. o ya no abs light or anything is on. and disc front drum rear

my guess is you drums are warped....if it was the front disk's the steering wheel would shake pretty hard the way your describing how bad it is... so pull your wheels and check every thing out look at the rear brakes and look for the axel seals leaking,see if your wheel cylinders are leaking, and check the life and condition of the shoes like cracks and grooves.....hope i helped

Sounds like to me your rotors are a bit warped, if you have enough meat left on the rotors have them turned and put some new pads on them and when you go back together torque the lug nuts instead of running them up with an impact. I always do that especially with new or freshly turned rotors and thay keeps them from warping from heat. but it doesnt really matter if you take wheels off later and put em back with impact its just the first time. An old man told me this a long time ago and ive never had a problem. Hope thats all it is and it helps. Let us know :chevy:

I agree with a rotor being the problem. I had a warped rotor on my old Toy truck and it transmitted the "feel" to the rear somehow. Threw away some time and money doing the rear before I moved to the front and found the bad rotor.
