93 sierra tranny problem
ok, i have a 93 gmc sierra 4.3v6 4x4 5 speed.i was playing around in the snow a lil bit(in 2wd).i was in second gear kinda spinning around corners, not over revving, just enough to get the tires spinning.either way, the other day,in 2wd, i was on some snow, in second gear, i gave it gas cuz i was kinda getting stuck, and the tranny started to grind when the wheels would spin.it doesnt do this in 1st.just 2,3,4.never tried 5th.anyways, now when im driving at normal speeds, lets say 70kmh,if i give it to much gas to accelerate, it grinds, and kinda feels like the clutch is slipping.but like i said, it doesnt do it in 1st at all..BUT.if im at a dead stop, and i accelerate very quickly thru the gears, it doesnt grind at all..does this make any sense..what could it be?.i havent checked the fluid or anything, but if it was that, wouldnt it do it even at fast acceleration?..thanks guys

Re: 93 sierra tranny problem
sounds like the synchros going on it. Those transmissions are fairly weak and can't take a whole lot of abuse.

Re: 93 sierra tranny problem
is that a fairly big job to do?how much you think it would cost to fix that if i did it myself?..i just bought the truck as a winter beater and was planning on selling it soon..thanks

Re: 93 sierra tranny problem
check your u-joints first before you get all excited about you trans being bad......make sure you check it in nuetral and chok the tire

Re: 93 sierra tranny problem
yah, i checked them a couple months ago, and they all seemed tight.i will check them again to make sure.its just weird how it doesnt do it if i accelerate quickly thru the gears..someone told me it could be the yoke on the driveshaft that goes into the tranny..

:agree: Harder accelerations help hold the gears in mesh with the others..... |
Re: 93 sierra tranny problem
ok..so now comes the question, can that be replaced or fixed?..can i do it myself or have to take it to a shop?..and last, anyone know a ballpark estimate if i can do it myself?..thanks guys, much appreciated
