1/2 ton Vs. 3/4 ton

I am looking at buying a 1970 3/4 ton coil rear Suburban. Other than the suburban thing, what are the differences between the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton? How much different are the front suspensions, frames, etc etc???

Re: 1/2 ton Vs. 3/4 ton

I have a C-10 and a C-20. The C-10 has coil springs out back. The C-20 has leafs out back. Both have A-arm front suspension.

The C-10 rides like a Cadillac.
The C-20 rides like a dumptruck.

Other than the rear cab mounts and a few braces, the frames are the same.

C-10 has 5 or 6 lug rims
C-20 has 8 lug rims.

dont quote me, but i belive the differences between 1/2 ton and 3/4 were more in the drive train then anything else.

..specifically the axels. 1/2 tons had 12 bolts out back, and usually a 10 bolt front (if 4x4)

3/4 tons i belive came with those bullit proof corprate 14 bolts out back?

or like a full-floater dana or something that you could put in a semi and drive it around.

other then that, it was an extra spring here, an extra bracket there, and of course...bragging rights..

Re: 1/2 ton Vs. 3/4 ton

the 14 bolt came out in the 73 - 87 trucks. Standard rear on a 3/4 ton was the eaton HO52, and dana as an option. Dana was standard in big block 3/4 ton trucks.
The frames are the same with added braces, and a lower rear cab mount (pick up only)
Coils were standard (chevy) on both 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton... optional leafs on both. GMC's were leaf standard on most years, with coils optional.
The front suspention is of the same type, but the 20 series was beefed up over the 10 series.
