Serpentine Belt Systems

Does anybody know what year motors we can pull serpentine brackets off of that will fit our trucks? I know there was a thread somewhere but I can't find it.

Re: Serpentine Belt Systems

The serpentine systems I am familiar with are for the small block engine. I think GM began in 1988 using them in trucks 1/2 & 3/4 ton. These have the a/c compressor on the passenger side (r-4 style) and the alternator on the driver side. In 1996 the vortec series engine changed the compressor to the driver side and used the sanden style compressor. I think all of these had a smog pump but a bypass pulley is available. I have no idea what Gm cars used this same setup. I would guess caprice, camaro, firebird. I do not think the GENERAL has used a V-belt since 88. Maybe this helped! Also you must have cylinder heads with accessory bolt holes in the ends.

Re: Serpentine Belt Systems

Yes, I edited the phot so maybe it can be seen better, The Power Steering Pump is mounted to the big Aluminum bracket, and by the bracket that attached behind the altenator (Red arrow). This bracket also mounts to the exaust bolts (yellow arrows), however I cannot bolt them in until I figure out how to modify for headers as the flange is alot shallower.

There is also another bracket that goes behind the tentioner to one of the intake bolts that needs to be modified before I can install it due to the Vortec heads having a different bolt pattern.

Re: Serpentine Belt Systems

I see it now, that is the problem I am going to run into is the header mounting. The backet sits over the top of the manifold/header correct?

I am not running vortec heads so would I have the same issues as you?

It's not really a problem, it just takes a little fab. work. Attached is a photo of a friend 94 Chevy that has been modified to work with headers.

Re: Serpentine Belt Systems

The upper brace should be fine, be If your running header the lower brace will still need to be modified.
