Hooking up amp and sub to stock stereo
I have a 1992 GMC 2500 and was wondering if i could hookup an amp and sub to the stock stereo?
Does anybody know if you can do this or do you have to have a new style CD player or what? |

You should be able to, but you won't be able to use the RCA inputs. You'll need to use the high gain inputs, and splice into the rear speaker wires to get the signal to the amp.

What are the high gain inputs?

Re: Hooking up amp and sub to stock stereo
High gain inputs are not on every model amp, but most should have it. They allow you to use the speaker output from the stereo instead of RCA jacks. They are precisely for your situation, where the stock unit does not have preamp outputs, just speaker outs. There is usually an adapter that comes with the amp that snaps into a certain place on the amp, and you connect the wires that are going to the rear speakers to it. The amp then converts the high output signal from the stereo to a lower dB level internally, then outputs the signal based on crossover, etc. to the speaker outs on the amp. Those then go to the speaker.
