Ol Pickup Truck
 

I bought my 1972 Chevy C-20 about 2 years ago. I had her towed from the country to the city where I live in Norh Louisiana. She wouldnt go in reverse, had no door panels, no grill, a busted heater and some huge red seats that looked like the belonged in a city bus. At 1200.00 bucks it seemed like a good deal at the time. Over these past couple years I've bought her a brand new transmission at about $1400, spent about $600 on some hedman headers, replaced the rearend, spent $400 on a holley for her, $250 or so on high performance ignition parts, and believe me brothers the list goes on and on and on. The 350 just got completely rebuilt ported, polished and blueprinted the whole 9 and I threw a set of old school 383 stroker heads in there too, and that ran roughly $3500. Still no grill or door panels and still sports that spray can primer paint. Yall would'nt believe the heads that old truck turns even in the shape shes in. For some reason everybody still loves my ugly loud old pickup truck. Dont get me wrong fellas I really do love this ol truck but it seems like every time I turn around something else it tearin up or falling off. I slamed the door and the guts fell out of it. Its zip tied shut right now. I get the motor back and put in and now the S.O.B wont go in gear cause the transmission linkage just wore out on me. I guess if I fix every singl thing that could ever go wrong with it the it wont be nothing left to break down on me... How long and how much $$$ does that take?

Just for comparison I have $58,000 in this truck but it will tow my 4000 LB boat across this country and back with no break downs. It all depends on what you use it for.

thanks i drive it everyday but its hell getting it all together soon as something gets fixed somethin else goes

Man I love that bed did you make it that bed I bet is worth the $1200 you gave for the truck I want mine to be kinda like that when I'm done with it.

naw i didnt make that bed a man named paul houge from vivian la built that bed and sold me the truck he said he had about 2000 in materials and such the chevy sign in the headache rack is what got me

Main reason we took a very descent driver and tore it down to the chassis was not to have to keep piecing the thing together. Do it right one time and be done no shortcuts, then again mine is a weekend warrior.

that bed is SWEETT!!!

it needs to be on a 3/4 ton 4x4 though...

keep fixin the lil things...lil by lil you'll have a nice truck..hey thats what im doin only 16 here! dont sell it whatever ya do! the beds the coolest part!!lol

I mean no offense by this, but $1400 for a tranny, $600 for headers, and $3500 for an engine sounds WAYY too high. I have built 350's that run in the low 11's for $3500 bucks! Again, I mean no offense to you by saying this, but it seems that $5500 you have already spent could have been stretched a whole lot further.

What was the bed like thing made for.It looks to be done well,just wondering what it purpose was.

well, thats how the daily drivers end up with a full nut and bolt resto! :lol:

eventually, every part falls off, and every part gets put back on!

it just takes a little longer lol

probably a head with a larger combustion chamber to deal with the high compression caused by the long stroke.

if thats the case, it would probably hurt a stock stroke motor more then provide gains.

...i never used stroker heads on my stroker...i have aluminum heads of an 85 vette, and just used dished pistons.
