Help!
2 Attachment(s)
I just hosed up my oil pan while trying to remove it. Yea Im a dump ass. The shop manual said to undo the motor mounts and then jack the motor up from the pan. I put a 2x4 across the pan, to help distrubute the the weight, and then let it rip. I should have stuck with my gut on this one but the shop manual couldn't be wrong... right? Well now I have crushed the oil pan, and can't find a replacement.
I have been searching online but haven't found one yet. LMC doesn't list one nor does Brothers. I have checked with the local parts store and nobody carries it. Even the junkyards in my area don't have one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
Re: Help!
I don't know how bad it is, but I'd take it off and repair it. Just my .02 BTW welcome aboard.

Here it is, what do you think? I guess if I can't find another one cheap then I will try to bang it out.

Re: Help!
If your oil pickup still fits in there, and the pan is not cracked...I would run it til you find a new one. I see str8 6's on Craiglist all the time. There are also some str8 6 performance websites.
Next time use a 2x8:lol:. |
Re: Help!
I'd just take that 2x4 on end and a hammer and pound that back out. If it cracks, just get it welded up.
Kuna Idaho must be down South? I don't see any snow in those pics.... |
Re: Help!
Thanks, yea I probably with do some poundin.
Kuna is just south west of Boise. The pics were actually taken last September when I bought the truck. We get a little snow down here. |

Well I finally got around to do some banging. Here is the before and after. No welding needed. I still need to fix the plug issue. Tried a self tapping plug, no dice... Then tried to tap it but the next size up is too big. So Im going to have to weld in a new nut.

Re: Help!
Looks good. Has a little character now. :)

Re: Help!
Try and find an original 348 or 409 pan that has not had the sh!t beet out of it. I have fixed many. Your pan with a little bit of time could look like nothing ever happened...

Here a few pics of how it ended up.
I tapped out the pan nut from ½ inch to 5/8. Then I while cleaning up the pan with my grinder a little chunk of pan came off round the plug. I put the plug in and of course it leaked. Decided to weld it. You can see from the pics I’m pro with a welder but it doesn’t leak anymore. This time I borrowed a cherry picker and put it back together the right way. Had a hell of a time getting the old gasket off but its all good now. And now there is something painted on my truck! |
Re: Help!
Looks like it turned out good.

Re: Help!
Looks good man. Every truck needs a little character. Hell, you could probably get another half quart of oil in there now.....
