Headers: Painted or coated?
I'm in need of a set of headers, but I'm at that point that I can't decide between painted and ceramic coated? Is there a durability difference, or just mostly cosmetic? The coated are about twice the price, so I want to make sure it's worth it, thanks!

Re: Headers: Painted or coated?
IMHO if you want a good coating buy painted headers and have them Jet Hot coated. my hookers are barely a year old and the coating is coming off and they were $700+ Jet hot coating is more durable and lasts alot longer.

Re: Headers: Painted or coated?
so this isn't going to help since lowriden suggested the opposite, but I've been running ceramic coated on my stock'ish 283 for 2 years now and have little to no coloring, and zero cracks or areas where it's coming off. I got a helluva deal from a board member for these, but I would buy them at normal prices if i had to do it over again.

Re: Headers: Painted or coated?
I agree buy the painted one and get them blasted and ceramic coated - this normally better than production ceramic coatings
Mine where done in "armor coat" by aesthetic finishers in Piqua Ohio |
Re: Headers: Painted or coated?
Thanks guys! I think I'll go with the black painted and either get em coated or just run em for a few years and replace if they start to fall apart.

Re: Headers: Painted or coated?
I took off my 8-year-old Hedman headers and had them sandblasted to bare metal. Then I airbrushed them with Techline Coatings satin black ceramic coating, that I got from Eastwood's. After they dried for a day, I baked the headers at 500* for an hour in my Mom's old Hotpoint oven. [No longer used for food.] I liked the result.

Make sure they get coated on the inside also.....

Re: Headers: Painted or coated?
i'm a lover of coated headers// they give you the bonus of looking good and keeping underhood tems down, painted headers throw off alot more heat under the hood not good
i've had a couple sets done by jethot over the years ,thought the money was well spent |
Re: Headers: Painted or coated?
Ceramic coating is the way to go. It keeps the underhood temps down.
I would stay away from Jet Coating, as I have heard nothing but complaints about their cheap workmanship. A friend of mine sent back a header for his Harley 3 times, due to fingerprints and scratches. Find a local shop and ask around local car shows. Hope the info helps. |
