Project Zumo... Drag truck
Hey guys, as some of yall prolly remember I bought a 67 project truck a while back & decided to make it my drag truck
Specs: 500 Caddi engine / TH-400, 12 bolt (for now), Z'd 4-1/2" front, shaved firewall, custom tube cross members & stiffeners, to be twin tubo'd So here are some pics to start this thread out right (starting from when i got it) http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...Picture213.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...Picture216.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...Picture219.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...Picture214.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...Picture220.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...Picture221.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...Picture240.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...Picture237.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...Picture239.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...Picture232.jpg |
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
Now, were are current
The other day I popped it off, so I know it will run And today I swapped out the intake from FI, to carbed Started with cleaning up the nasty old intake I got for free (sorry no before pics of when it was rusty) And then I cleaned up the ports (forgot to get after pics lol) Then I modded the carb area & smoothed the fire out of it http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...icture2164.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...icture2166.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...icture2165.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...icture2169.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...icture2167.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...icture2168.jpg |
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
Removing the intake & valve covers
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...icture2170.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...icture2172.jpg NASTY !!!! http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...icture2173.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...icture2174.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...icture2175.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...icture2176.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...icture2177.jpg Clean :D http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...icture2178.jpg Got it trying to run, but I think the valves are sticking & Im trying to free them up  |
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
Good to see ya finally working on it! Man that puppy was nasty inside. Looks like it never had an oil change.
|
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
I was thinking the same thing on the oil change. Looks like someone only added oil. I had an S10 once that only had pensoil in it. 188k miles, but take the valve cover off and you had to dig to find rockers. Good luck getting that beast running. Subscribed:metal::metal::metal:

Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
How random is this truck!
Twin Turbo, Cadillac powerd, Chevy, Pickup.. :metal: I'm in love. |
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
I'm in love and subscribed. It's a 67 and we all know 67's are the sleekest meanest looking machines in the Chevy lineup. :D

Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
Gotta watch this one.
|
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
Sorry for the lack of a update today, its been raining & my other bay is full of stuff so I can just pull it in yet :(
|
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
Badass man I can't wait to see a twin turbo caddy in an old chevy truck
|
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
Well I was gonna keep this "hush hush" but Killer will be receiving the Caddi treatment as well
|
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
What are the plans for the motor? Just try to clean it out and then run it?
|
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=328050 Could be a good idea
|
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
Too bad that front isnt 67 :(
Well I think we are gonna pull it down & do a freshen up on it, dont trust all the crap that could be in it Gonna start it out with 2 GM-8 turbos off of 6.5TDs  6.5s turn roughly 4k max & the single stock turbo puts out about 20 to 22 psi max boost, so 2 of those on a 8.2 liter cad twisted to no more than 4k to begin with should build a max boost of possibly 12 to 15 psi Stock 500 puts out about 300 hp / 400 tq, so with that boost it should be around 600 hp / 700 tq all done by 4k  Now thats all guesses, but it seems that isnt unreasonable :uhmk: |
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
Cool I am interested in how the diesel turbos work on a gas motor.
|
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
Turbo is a turbo, it just has to be for the right RMP range & cubic inches ;)
|
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
Well guys I think yall will be proud, I got a video of it running today :D
May not be the best cuz I forgot my video camera, & had to use my digital camera for the vids, but oh well :uhmk: BTW, its loud as crap !!!! Im not one to use ear protection for starting engines, but I did on the one ;) |
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
I dunno what the deal with the vids are, they play just fine on YouTube & when I open another tab & paste the URL in it they play too
Maybe its the board ??? Just click the title of them & it will take you to YouTube to watch them  |
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
Damn those cadi motors make some noise.. Lot rev happier sounding than I thought.
|
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
Yeah it surprised us as to how loud it was only being like 8:1 compression & it revs as good as some of my SBCs !!!
I think that cleaning up & modding that intake did a lot to be honest |
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
Drop Dead Sexy.
I want a Caddy 500 now! |
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
Well I have some bad news, after putting out a post on a caddi board dad found that propper end play when fresh on one of these should be from .002 to .0012
So we are hoping that the crank & or block isnt toast, more to come when we pull the engine (that will be when we get it in the shop) |
Re: Project Zumo... Drag truck
Very cool! I love out the box engine ideas! I have a GMC 401 Magnum V6 that I would love to turbocharge.
