Picklex 20
 

Anybody use Picklex 20? Sounds like an easy to use product for anybody not doing a frame off, but wanting an easy application for treating rust and making a sound surface for priming/painting.

I've used it as an interim step on parts not yet painted, but laying around the shop for extended periods. I have not used it as a rust preventative for long term however. For how I am using it, I like it.

Guess I'm really not sure now. At $39 per pint I might give it a try, but it would have to be really good! Not sure I want to pay $9 plus from autobodystore.com to ship a pint UPS though.

I bought mine directly from the manufacturer. I don't recall how much it was but I remember it being slightly cheaper than other places that I priced it at. The shipping was a little pricey though.

I went to their website and for some reason I can't get their online store to come up. Sorry...

Man,
I had hoped to at least get a couple of opinions on this. Am I the only one not doing a frame off?:confused:If I am going to try this stuff, I want to do it before I put the floor back in.

I use OsPho(phosforic acid).Pretty much the same stuff,but been around much longer and is cheaper.Can be found locally at hardware stores,boat places,box stores,etc.
It neutralizes rust and leaves a gray/black surface coating that you can leave as is,wire brush and paint.

How much rust are you talking about ol Curt? For very minor surface stuff that are in corners and hard to get Ive used a rust converter in a rattle can with rattle can price....roughly 5 bucks or so.

20 some years ago, I used some in my 69 Chevelle around the rear window. It was like a jell and it hardened into a coating that could be sanded and painted. I sold the car 10 years later and nothing had ever popped out from that area. I dont know what it was, now. Too long ago.

I have heard the Ospho is available at hardware stores but haven't found it here. I saw some online at $130 per gallon. Maybe they decided to price according to what the market can bare. If Picklex 20 is being bought for this much....why can't we?

The jell could have been Naval Jelly...pink in color. I've heard it workd pretty good. I may try some of the rattle can stuff in corners.

Went back and looked at the Ospho again. I was wrong. They are REALLY proud of it! They want $130 per quart!!

I paid less than $30.00 per gallon for mine!
This stuff is like water and goes a loooooong ways!
I did a whole (in and out) cross member with about 6 ounces,most of which went on the ground.I spray it with an old 409 bottle and rub it in with a brush.
I used to buy it at the marine supply store along with fiberglass resin.I had to bring my own gallon jug!
