1972 4x4 conversion

I tried to do a search on this but came up with didly. Asside from the obvious things needed tranfer case, tranny, leaf springs, different front and rear differentials. What else would be needed to make this conversion? I want a 4wd version of my truck but theres not alot of them out there so was just considering the possibility of making my own. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Terry J.

I think the first thing you want is to find a good used 4x4 frame (1/2 or 3/4 ton) (with the axles) for a frame swap. Next add engine, tranny & transfer case and driveshafts of your choosing. Buy a High Hump for the interior. Decide if you want a body lift or not. And tires you plan to run.

Next plan out the work....Theres going to be a lot of it.

Good Luck

You would also need: engine and trans crossmembers, shift linkage, steering box, high floor hump, brake lines, leaf spring perches, driveshafts, It is probably easiest to find a donor 4X4 for all the goodies,

Oooh Hadnt thought of the steering box or the floorboard!! Is it possible to convert the existing frame? I know all the 2wd crossmember and suspension will come off. Just looking at all the posibilities. First thing im looking at is just finding a 4wd to buy.

all the little stuff is where it will kill you. find a donar 4x4 It'll be alot easier i know couse thats what I'm doing right now to.. I had axles, transfer, cab, but had to buy another donar for all the linkages, crossmembers, mounts, ect.

Terry familarize yourself with the board index a little better. You can find all kinds of info about this in the 4x4 area.
