Tahoe

Well after looking at the 67 - 72 board at a couple of the Tahoe builds it's got me thinking about doing it to my 73 Suburban again. Here's an edited picture of what it would look like, well sorta, I've got a 86 front clip on it now. What do you guys think?

Re: Tahoe

I was thinking about 9" in front of the wheels & 9" behind the wheels. Now is the time for me to decide if I'm gonna do it or not because I'm getting ready to start building a new frame for it. The deal breaker would be the rear side window. Unlike the flat rear side windows on the 67 - 72 Suburbans the 73 - 91 Suburban rear side windows have a slight curve to them. I need to find out if a glass can be made for it.

Can you even get 9" out the front? either way :metal:

The distance from the rear wheel well opening & rear door is 8", I want the wheel well to be a little bit in the door like the Tahoe.
The 73 front clip is long gone, the front fenders had the only rot on the whole truck.

You could use lexan for side windows. You can heat the lexan over the original glass to get the proper curve.

Yeah, it scratches easier than glass, but on the side it shouldn't be to critical. Too bad about the early clip. That would be the way to go...;)

I would check with a glass shop. They should be able to sand (cut) the windows down to fit. They will probably tell you There is no garrentees and they might need a couple extras. Its not like the raer windows are hard to find.

Re: Tahoe

Sanding the widows is the only way I thought of doing it to, but 18" might be a little to much. I don't want to use lexan, my kids will be riding in the rear, I don't need big sharp chunks of it splintering out like big knives if I ever were to get t-boned. I'm thinking that someone who has lots of experience chopping tops would possibly know some way to pull it off.

I was talking to a guy last night about the water jet the have at work and he mentioned that it will cut tempered glass. He said you should contact RTD Manufacturing.

Your thinking about plexi-glas. Lexan is bullet proof and is NHRA legal in race cars. It doesn't shatter or splinter.
