Hello I,m new to this web site but like what I see. My question is can I R&R a 83 truck disc brake front cross member to my 66 front cross member or should I just buy new drop spindles to convert?. Thanks Greg

Welcome to the forum gregwestby. I think you will get a quicker answer to your question if I move this to the 60-66 forum.

You can use the crossmember out of the 83, but I think its alot of work when you can get the drop spindles and just convert it. Thats what I'm going to do with my 66, if I ever get around to it.

Greg-If you plan to drop it, I would go ahead and buy the drop spindles. More than likely you would have to buy all of the same replacement parts for the 83 stuff as you will to install the new spindles.

66shortstep-When'd you get a new project?

Awhile back. Its just a cab and frame. It will be awhile before I start it. Click on my name and hit profile, and go to my pics. I have a couple of pics of it.

The crossmember swap isn't too bad to do if your engine is out. The advantage to swapping the whole crossmember is some upgraded parts such as larger LCA shaft U-bolts, rubber control arm shaft bushings as opposed to the steel ones. But if you're wanting dropped spindles anyway, that would be the better way to go to start with.
