My Story 71 short step

So here we go...... I just recently bought a 71 c-10 short bed step side from AZ,for a father son build. Its on its way now through a shipping company up here to good old Boston MA.Ever since i was a little guy I always remember my dad to have old cars from Prostreet to rare cruisers. The past few years have been real tough on him from breaking his back ,to dealing with cancer and just recently a hip replacement on new years.I was up at his house (its about two hours away) over last summer and I was working on getting one of his camaro's up and running.Over that next week i was up we spent hours in the garage working on his different cars and it was kinda funny we were always one step ahead of each other lol..... if i was under the hood and needed something my father saw where I was going and had the tool in hand already. That to me is what this project is all about. Over the past few months I have been going up there and just helping him with whatever and the conversation arose about a father son project. Well to be honest I kinda brought it up it was running through my mind left and right, I mean we have worked on cars but i wanted something that was ours you know.So i asked myself what cars would my father want to do, I brought up the c-10, showed him a hundred of them , he emailed me a couple hundred more lol and we decided upon a c-10 We saw on ebay. which was great for me cause I always wanted one .So i bought it. This post will follow along as we build it, and also i'm sure ill be looking for some of you guys expert advice on where to get parts or some good advice as we make our way through this project I've thrown a few pics in here for your viewing pleasure.http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m...f2138129f3.jpghttp://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m...82954252b7.jpghttp://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m...6253aff206.jpghttp://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m...2eb1253f2a.jpghttp://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m...cb2d282221.jpghttp://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m...3eeca70cfd.jpg

some of his stuff
the challenger i think this is his first dodge lol

That is great that the two of you are so close, you are gonna love that truck and working on it, definetly better than changing floors in camaros and firebirds, i am currently changing two of them so i know what you mean, can not wait to see what you are gonna do with this truck.

Hey looks like you are the proud owner of a new truck, way to go, she looks good from the pics as far as i can tell. Looks like the box is off of a newer chev truck, 73-79 i believe. Anyways when you get a chance, throw up some more pics.

Re: My Story 71 short step

thanks for the info and compliments guys , so today i got to adjusting the carb fixing some of the wiring the guy had in there nothing crazy just a few cut wires and stuff but 99 percent of the harness is intact thankfully also took care of some loose belts and the timing idle issue. My dad saw the truck for the first time this morning he was down visiting the doctors from nh and he came by my shop to check it out, needless to say this weekend a brake booster , tilt steering and shims are getting put in it according to him haha his eyes lit up and started naming off all the parts he has in the garage for me lol also he has a set of T.T. II grey with the polished lip ill be putting those on checking how they look and the spacing and I may have the ones on the truck for sale. But all in all it should be an interesting weekend , i am going on ebay to find a nice set of tahoe or seirra buckets near by here so i can get the old beat up bench out which only needs to be recovered but im a short guy so i dont want the passangers to suffer lol, if anyone needs a bench let me know its not too bad with the cover on it:metal:

Re: My Story 71 short step

ok where to start This has been a mess and a half so far lol

Two weeks ago i grabbed my trailer and headed down to my garage where my pick up was only about 40 min away, I am driving down good old 95 and what else road construction .... no biggie until there was a ton of traffic (i was in the slow lane creeping ) and an 18 wheeler next to me , two seconds later he was on the flatbed trailer he crushed the fender and blew out two of my tires , mind you this is around 11 pm and i love changing tires that late in the cold lol, so i did it and didnt even call the guy a name cause well i was tired and if he was tired as me then he didnt see the trailer, so i changed the two spares i had luckily and got my pickup loaded .

Friday i proceeded to Attempt to register my truck after waiting in the RMV for two hours the pleasant peice of work behind the counter informed me i needed a bill of sale with the title to prove how much i payed for it ... no problem i bit my tounge and waited till i got outside to use obscenities ... i felt better not much but a little lol

so i wait till monday for attempt number two with bill of sale in hand i go to the counter after waiting 1 hour this time i hand her everything with the correct amount on the bill of sale and she fills out her paper work and i see her get the plates i was happy ..... until she told me the price on the bill of sale was not valid and she was going to have to get the manager to look up the nada value i still didnt care i seen my plates and i yes her to death. now i dont know if you guys know what the nada value is for these trucks but it was through the roof she comes back and says my truck is worth $10100 and to register it i have to pay the sales tax to MA of 500 dollars pluss all of the plate and reg fees it came to like 600 bucks. i in turn asked her if she would like to purchase my truck for ten grand , she said no so i asked how can you charge sales tax on a car you have no clue what it looks like or the value it and just pick a number from nada. i told her to kiss my ass and i was going to register it in nh she told me it was illegal to do so i told her not if i "sell it to my dad" she can still kiss my ass oh and the registry can too.

lol now im done with the *****ing

i have the booster column and other misc parts waiting up in nh at my dads so we are going to start on the thing this weekend with the major stuff. i have done a few things too it like changing all the bulbs , new battery, new cd player new shifter fixing the jimmy rigged air cleaner , window cranks and the rest pf the little electrical problems she is drivable once again.

ill give you guys some pics after we tear into it this weekend :)

Re: My Story 71 short step

Hey guys i have some good news and bad news, let me start off by the good stuff, i bought a new rea rend, gears and a four link like two weeks ago but didnt get to put them in before i hurt the motor last night lol. the reason im laughing and kinda have a smile on my face is ..... i was driving on the highway at crusiing speed maybe 50 is and low and behold Mr porsche gt3 pulls up next to me , i look over admiring the car and pay no mind until.... you guess it he jumped on it , well me wanting to have some fun decided alright we can play so i get next to him now we are going prob 70 after we both slowed down and no traffic ahead of us we got on it ... the porsche took me for about 100 - 150 feet but by that time my lil small block was getting deep in the revs and not only caught him in like no time but also passed him , with pure joy and a perma grin on my face at im guessing 130 i started to slow down because the truck was getting a little scary, at that speed i down shifted to help me slow down quick i didnt notice anything until i took the exit a high pitch ticking. i pulled the valve covers off and two rockers were real loose i re adjusted them and the ticking wasnt as bad but still there :( i havent gotten too much more into it but i will tell you one thing im still smiling , at least the guy gave me the thumbs up lol i wonder if he went to go trade it in on a gt2 ??? lol ill keep you updated

Re: My Story 71 short step

just a quick update , my motor problem was a lifter , :) so i am very very happy that it was an easy fix but the truck is under the knife again with the four link going in i will throw some picks up shortly , also i happen to stumble upon a 1980 corvette 60 thousand on it white with red leather and t tops , the guy restored it about 8 years ago and it sat needless to say i picked it up real cheap and it will get me through the summer while my truck is getting more upgrades ill post picks later tonight :metal:
