courtesy light install.....

I picked up some of these LED bolts awhile back and never used them. After driving my truck when it was semi-dark I thought of a good use for them afterall. Courtesy lights that turn on when you open the door. On all of our dashes there are 2 factory holes about 6" in on each side. I dont know what the use was; maybe installation of the dash? Anyway I bolted up the LED's and drilled for the door pins. Tied in the lights to some battery power and now have some illumination when stepping in the truck at nite. This could be done numerous ways, but the door pins are the hard part :cuss:.

Thanx guys....... Those things have been hanging in there for so long that I forgot about them until I took these pics. I put them in along time ago when I did the carpet and seats just to get rid of all the new stuff mixed with the old stuff smells.

Yeah Joe, I went out after it was dark to see how it looked and its not as brite as lite bulbs but shines down on the floor area so you can see to step in the truck.

It was a real pain drilling thru from under the dash.....its double walled in there.

Cool idea....

Funny you posted this, I'm right in the middle of installing the new harness in Holli's '57 wagon...I'm going to install under-dash lights on that too...Just makes it easy to see. That round dome-light in the center of the roof just wont cut it.

Although, I'm gonna rip some out of some GM cars at the wrecking yard.

BTW, what ever happened to the 'juice' idea ??

Two questions. Are the lights blue? Why do you need them when you got that big a$$ lantern sitting on the floorboard? Serious though, I like it and I'm probaly gonna do something like that on mine. Good work.

The lights are white, but you can get them in blue and red. I think it looks that way because the flash was off to get a better pic of the light.

It would be cool to color cordnate your lights with your truck. I hade mine all blue to match the truck but when I sold it to the father inlaw he replaced them with white. I bet it would be cool to put some lights in the doors to. Like on my 2000 tahoe.

Re: courtesy light install.....

Definitely, Jason. I had the idea about the door lites too. I like some of the newer vehicles that have them turn on when you open the door. The biggest issue with these trucks is the dash hite vs. door. Trying to fish wire in there and keep it up high behind the dash is a real b&%$h. The cab is double wall up behind the dash where my wire runs in to the grommet. When I did speakers in the door I found that there is supportive structure in the lower corner of the door. Its a pain to get in there, too.

This looks like an easy little project, but I spent about 1/2 a day just getting the switches installed. I had to take some time off before I finally powered it up.
