Re: Vintage Window-Mounted Evaporative Cooler????
I always wondered how well they worked? I've seen em at shows and swap meets, I know the basic idea of em, but I've always been curious as to if they make a lick of difference.

I mostly seen them on Lead Sleds, and LowRider cars/trucks. . .
One fella told me they made some that you put ice in. Some have fans inside them. Sweeeeeeeeeet! ! ! ! http://image.lowridermagazine.com/f/...ickup+rear.jpg |
Re: Vintage Window-Mounted Evaporative Cooler????
I wonder what kind of wear pattern those leave on the truck and if you can run those crome window shades and have one of those at the same time.

They use to put them on VW's back in the day. you might find one by searching VW parts.

Re: Vintage Window-Mounted Evaporative Cooler????
So what's the proper names for these? Or they have have different nick names? I have seen a lot of them Chrome, and look a little different. Maybe different manufacturers. The only thing I can find is Window-Mounted Evaporative Cooler, Swamp something for VW's. Classicair is only one that comes up on google.

Thermador I think was a Mfg. or made parts not sure. I know when we were little we had one in our VW van. living in the south with the humidity they helped some. but at a red light you would die. |

Re: Vintage Window-Mounted Evaporative Cooler????
A buddy of mine has one on his '53 pickup. It works prety good as long as you're moving. I've heard that if you add a little rubbing alcohol to the the water/ice, it'll cool better.

Re: Vintage Window-Mounted Evaporative Cooler????
If u live in a dry climate they work very well, Az, Ca, Co, if u live in a humid area they do not function as well, but are better than nothing, before air conditioning became widely availabe homes were cooled with fan operated units (Az & Ca) since the climates are so dry. Kieth the old guy, we used to sleep in the kitchen where the water cooler was located with the cooler running and the attic fan on.........Kieth
now the next question will be what is a attic fan.....then what is a clothesline, then what is a party line, ???????I really am getting old..... |
Re: Vintage Window-Mounted Evaporative Cooler????
we still have an attic fan & all my work clothes hang out on the line, but the party line is way long gone!
