Questions on my '65 C-10
 

Hey everyone. Been a while since I've been around, good to be back.

I've got a '65 Chevy pickup and I've just bought a new crate 350 2-main for it. I'm taking out my worn out 283, and wondering what it would be like price wise and effort wise to slap a 700 r4 behind it. What kind of modifications am I looking at? This would be for local daily driving as well as on highway.

Any advice would be much obliged. Thanks you all.

For info on the tranny, go to www.bowtieoverdrives.com

Properly built, they will take a lot of abuse. And the 70% overdrive will help your highway mileage.

Summit Racing lists a 700R for about $1,360 (Part Number: TCI-371038), new - no exchange, so that gives you an idea of what the base cost for a new one would be.

When building a driver these days, I will not put a transmission without overdrive.

I also never learned to drive an automatic, so I am putting a T5 in mine.

I'm running a stock 700R4 behind a 283 in our '66.........at least will be when the truck gets put back together;)

Try to find a trans shop that builds 'em for drag racers, they seems to know the tricks and can upgrade the trans based on your budget.

A guy I know told me that they weren't very good, but I have heard a lot of good about them, so I'm seriously considering one.

They have gotten a bad reputation....in stock form.
Also, if the TV cable isn't adjusted properly, it will eat itself in a very short period of time.

Right now I have a 283 in front of the 350 in my truck. Not sure what kind of crossmember situation I might get into with that yet. Like you guys said in previous posts, though, I like the thought of having that overdrive under me.

I'm becoming more curious about these and the 200 r4 as well. We'll see what shakes out.
