firing up an 84 swb

Im trying to get my truck started and not sure what to try next. Im new to this so a little patience might be need. Truck has been sitting for a while, but i was able to get the truck to roll over by hand and then by cranking it with the starter. Have added new plugs. The truck has been sitting in a garage the whole time it hasnt been running. I think it has been a year and a half to 2 years since it has ran. Motor is a 350 carbd not tbi

Check for spark and fuel delivery first, then get back with us.

Could be bad gas or the gas isnt getting to the carb.

What is your question? Are you having trouble getting the truck started or are you asking what the procedure is for starting an engine that has been sitting?

If you are asking about the procedure, You have already cranked the engine so the oil preeure should be up. Start the truck, let it warm up and change the oil and filter. Check the fluids, hoses, belts, etc.
If you are having trouble getting the engine to start, You need to check for fuel and spark. Look down the carb for fuel as you pump the accelerator. If you don't have any fuel sparying in the carb, check the lines and fuel pump. Make sure there is gas in the tank. My dad is good for not having gas in the tank.
You could have old gas, a mouse could have chewed a wire of fuel hose.

ok got the truck to backfire up through the carb. This would indicate some sort of timming issue right? wont have time to mess with it for a couple of days. I need to pick up a good battery too the one im using is pretty weak.

Timing or plug wires got mixed up. Check the firing order.

If it ran when it was parked then it will not be timing more than likely. I am beting that when you changed the plugs you crossed a plug wire. It is very easy to do. Run your wires it will not take long at all. 18436572 is the firing order. Odd nuber clynders are on the driver side and even number is on the pass side. Good luck.

That is what is confusing me. I will check the wires and get back to you. it will prob be a couple days though. I have to do the brakes on my wifes car before I get to mess with the truck. Thanks for the input I'm getting laid off in a week wich stinks but I will have plenty of time to work on the truck after that

ok i know its been a while and noone is probably watching this but i got the truck started today and everything is pretty much ok. The only problem right now is a small cooling system leak pretty sure it is in the radiator.:metal:

What was the culprit?

Re: firing up an 84 swb

well it wasnt the timing. i just cleand up the carb a little sprayed some starter fluid in it and it took off. went ahead and put a good strong battery on it and drove it around the block a few times.
