1972 2WD Blazer Lks Dcvn Build

2 Attachment(s)
I bought the 1972 2wd Blazer from Mike (70rs/ss) and he will be putting a few things together for me so I can drive it home in a few months.

Here is what the build will consist of:

1972 2WD Blazer
68 Front Clip
Blazer Buckets
Rear Blazer Seat
Single Wall Top with Hatch
402 or 454 BBC
TH350, TH400 or 700r4
5 lug front and rear (Mike is swapping out the 8 lug stuff)
Front 71/72Stock Disk Brakes
Rear Impala SS Disk Brakes
ECE 2.5" Front Spindle Drop - stock springs
ECE 4" Rear Drop
ECE Shock Relocators
ECE Adjustable Panhard Bar
ECE Rear Drop Shocks

And here are a few pix of how the project started - these were from a few months ago...I should be getting a few more pix soon and will update the thread as we move along.

1st pic is the day he dragged it home and the 2nd is when he did the 8 lug suspension install...

8 lug. why?

Re: 1972 2WD Blazer Lks Dcvn Build

The 8 lug stuff was put on the front since he put a Dana 60 on the back (Posi rear was gone) and wanted to get it to a roller/driver...

All the 8 lug stuff will be removed by Mike and a posi rear donor 71/72 Burb will be used to get it back to the 5 lug disk brake configuration.

:metal:

Picts are coming, but the 4X4 Blazer I sold to a member in NY is having it picked up tomorrow (Wed 3/11) so I need to jockey the 2wd off of the trailer so I can load the 4X4 up for the ride to Winslow to meet the transporter. WOW, I am just a bit over loaded! I am heading out Fri for Cali to get the single walled top for the 2wd as well as delivering the 5.3/4l60e I sold to a member in San Jose'! I'll get more current up to date shots here soon!!

Well, not a lot of picts but to us gear heads, these are the "Money Shots!!"

I got this engine in a deal with a member years ago and was told it was a 402, well the engine code is TSD which happens to be a 454!! Not a 402 and quite frankly a better motor to me so!? It is a 75 454 with the sought after 781 heads, the cam appears to be a performance grind and the PO said it ran rough so he just put a 350 in his Burb and pulled this out and traded it to me. I figured it was the carb (It wasn't the carb I used it on another vehicle) so I was wondering if it may have a flat lobe, NOPE, but it does have a cracked exhaust manifold so I figured that was it, then I pulled the plugs, #8 ground strap was sitting on the electrode, aka not firing at all, I think I found the miss!! Anyways it is a fresh build as the Valley is spotless, I cleaned it up a bit and dumped some royal purple on the cam and rolled it over by hand several times. Put an intake on it and she'll be ready to breath fire!! I go to meet the transport for the 4X4 then I have to come home and load up the truck for the trip to Cali to deliver the 5.3/4l60e I sold and pick up the single walled top Brad was nice enough to deliver for me from Portland to Antioch, and it is for the 2wd, so progress has begun, slow as it may be, it is progress!

Lks Dcvn Here is a pict of one of the wheels I have, not sure if I still have a set of 4 of the trim rings, but they are from a late model truck and are easy to find and cheap too! What do you think?

Just ordered the shock kit (which has the shock relocators in it) and the drop spindles from ECE...should be there in a few days.

Wow, this got buried, I better get to work on it!! It now has the correct single walled top on it and it is in the garage!! Progress(not much, but some is better than none!) I have a few shots from the top swap and I'll post them up ASAP! I need to go get the Burb parts donor vehicle, saw it last week, super sweet, lots of good stuff for the 2wd Blazer and even more stuff for me to finally build thge 4X4 Burb I have wanted!! More picts to follow, I just back from 3 weeks of travel for work so I am super behind here and at home!

OK the Ochre single walled top, finally off of my truck!! The rest are of the double walled coming off and the bedsides and windshield frame from the top, ya I know you Easterners can hate me now, no rust AT ALL anywhere where the top mounts!

The rest of the scotbrited rails, look clean don't they!? Forgive the clutter, but my Blazer has served as parts storage facility for a while now as space is limited here. I will post more picts as I get more progress. 6 more weeks of school then I'll go on 4-10's with a 3 day weekend and progress should start picking up quickly!!

Looks pretty good! How does the stuff from ECE look?

I can't believe that you have never pulled a top on any of your Blazers-

As soon as I got my 69 Blazer - that was one of the first things I did - :)

This winter - I never even put it back on and put it in storage without a top - just a cover.

I am itching to get out and drive the Blazer, but it hasn't warmed up enough here - although it might be 60 today.

I had another user ask me for pix lately - guess I need to get some up here -

I will need to get a picture of the fleet one day:

1969 4x4 Blazer (avatar pic) - 6" lift, 35" tires.
1970 LWB - project I am trying to finish up to give to my Dad for Father's Day - he doesn't know it is coming yet.
1972 C/20 going to be trading for a 72 Blazer (hopefully next weekend)
1972 2wd Blazer - being built in this thread...:)
1995 Impala SS - 88k original miles - I am the 2nd owner - sitting in the garage
1997 Yukon GT - Daily Driver

Here is a pic from when I first got the 69 Blazer from Washington State...disregard the landscaping project in the background...

I have done plenty of work to it since this pic was taken - both bumpers replaced, rewired most of the truck, replaced the gas lines that were leaking to the tank, replaced the sending unit...

Still plenty to do though - just like everything else.

What an amazing lack of rust. That is awesome. Going to be a SWEET BUILD. I WANT A 2WD BLAZER BAD NOW.

Re: 1972 2WD Blazer Lks Dcvn Build

The ECE stuff looks sweet, BUT I was shocked that the spindles are raw (not painted nor powder coated?) The drop brackets etc are coated in a nice low gloss black, but not the spindles?? I was wondering about that, paint would work, but a nice coat of powdercoat would almost ensure they'll never get rusty?? Any thoughts? Call ECE or maybe have them coated before install? LMK as I hope to get stated on the front suspension and I am getting the burb hopefully next weekend, so I'll have the rear end stuff ready to roll as well. The engine is waiting for me to get it together and installed, lots of parts just waiting for the time, and after three weeks on the road for work I am BEAT!! Trying to rest up and get ready!!

Re: 1972 2WD Blazer Lks Dcvn Build

I am looking into it - thanks Mike. If I would have known that they were raw I would have had my buddy powdercoat them for free before I sent them out to you...stay tuned.
