Important Title Question

Ok Here goes.

I bought my truck in January 2000 The truck is getting real close to being finished and I wanted to start the registration process. I have the bill of sale but the title was lost to Katrina. The Original owner has passaway and the truck had not been on the road since 1995 or so.

Is there a way to get the registration? If not I'm truly F**ked because I just spent all this money for nothing.

Jake

I'm going to try and stop at one of the local offices of the DMV one day this week. Has anyboby in the club been in sit?

Re: Important Title Question

Hope this helps.

If you titled the truck,
all you have to do is sign an Affidavit and take to the registration office.
which this dosen't sound like you ever did.

I don't no the N.O. laws but it sounds like you need to find a relative of the man who passed, and have them take the death certificate to the registration office with a signed affidative and apply for a lost title then have them sign the title over to you.
But I would check with the local vehical registration office.

Can't you just file for a lost title?

Re: Important Title Question

Jake:
I assume that you are speaking about the title for the cab that you are using on your truck? Do you have a title and VIN plate on the Green replacement truck that you bought? If so, I would drill/rerivet that VIN plate to your replacement cab. The VIN plate on mine is just held on by two pop rivets.

If you want to pursue the title on the original truck, the paper that you need to prepare/have signed by the seller's relatives is called an "Heirship Paper". You should be able to find the form on the Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicles website.

I hope this is helpful.

Steve

Re: Important Title Question

as another resort, you can use broadway title co. (.com)... it costs $150 (this was a few years back).
you in essnce "sell" your vehicle to them, they register it in one of the title free states,ex. Ab,Me., and then "sell" it back to you.
this circumvents most of the bureaucratic hassles that you might encounter dealing with dead people , thier relatives , and the state.
It mainly gets down to what your time is worth to you...
