Tire Pressure sensors
 

Any thoughts on changing the TPM sensors from one set of rims to another? How about leaving them off of the rim and putting them into a pressurized container to let the computer read from the cab. I have made up a PVC tube with a valve stem and a threaded fitting that would allow me to put ALL 4 inside and them press it up to 35 PSI and throw into a storage hole in the truck. INPUT?????

you can just swap them to another set of wheels i've done ti before when i use to install tires

The pressurized container is a good idea, or you can drill and mount them in the spare also. Don't do what I did - bought wheels and tires separately, called my favorite tire shop and asked if they could swap the TPM's, mount and balance. He said it would be no problem. AFTER they got all the original wheels off and the sensors out, he called and said they couldn't. I called the Chevrolet service manager and put them on the phone together and he basically called the tire guy an idiot. So I left with my new wheels and tires mounted but no TPM's (pissed off). Had to make an appointment at Chevrolet and pay again, took them 30 mins. Should have gone there first.

Sorry for the long winded story. Just saying that if you're swapping them into the new wheels, take them to the dealership.

I took one of the new rims to the dealer and did a trial fit up of a new sensor at the parts counter. We knew that the sensors out of the factory rims would fit without issue.

There are some strange "Tire Guys" out there. One place quoted me a price of $130.00 to just move the sensors, then the price of the tire changeout on top of that. I suppose, it was because we did not buy the rims at their store. We beat their prices at the Eagle Rims Open House in KC, so why pay them to sell me at a more expensive price. We got the rims mounted balanced and sensors moved for $65.00. Every penny counts, now days---I wonder why?

I think the only think you have to do is keep then in the same location as they were when you removed them (ie driver front, pass rear). I know that when you have the tires rotated, the computer has to be told where they went. My dad is a service mgr at the Wal mart TLE and this is something that they do.

that is easlley just follow the manual to start the relearn and start at the left front tire and let air out untill the horn blows then move to left rear then right front and right rear. horn will blow twice to let you know it is done just be sure to refill the tires when done

The idea is to eliminate the dang things from the wheels and not have the computer throw a warning as you drive. I have driven for years without the government telling me that my tires were flat, so now I can't? I see no reason why they would not work in the trunk. If you leave the wheel with the sensor in it in your garage the car's monitor picks it up every time you pull into the garage and resets the problem. That is a good hint that the monitor is dumb enough to not care where the sensor is at. It is something that the safety people thought would keep the Firestone problems and the Ford Explorers from having flats and rollovers.

I got new wheels and tires. Where I got them they would not change the sensors. I went to the dealer they told me they would do it for $480.00. FOUR HUNDRED EIGHTY DOLLARS!!! I told them thanks but no thanks. They are bloodsuckers. If in Maryland, don't ask JBA Chevrolet for any assistance.

We changed the sensors on my son's 2007 Impala, as we put on customm rims, for $17.00 a rim with the tire mounted and balanced. If you had to update your sensors, then there are kits that give you a new seal, valve core, stem nut, and stem cap for about $10.00. The price the dealer quoted you was for NEW sensors at $80.00 a piece. Tell them OK, and Goodbye.
