So a couple of years ago we bought a 66 Volvo Amazon wagon because my wife wanted one. The brakes were locked up and the clutch slave was shot.
so we hired a "Volvo" guy to get it road worthy . At the time my shop was in the planning stages. Well fast forward to present day and the car shifts and stops o.k. but the fuel system needs an overhaul. So after rebuilding the Weber thats on the B20 (B18 was stock, like you care:lol:) I found the throttle shaft worse than I originally thought. So I am draining the old nasty fuel and going to treat the tank as well as replace the fuel lines and hoses, fuel pump and Weber . This will be "one" of my wifes Volvo projects or should I say one of my wifes Volvos one of my (many) projects ;) Her other one involves a V8 transplant . more on that when this ones a mover. On to stage 1 fuel system overhaul ............ (I look at FrizzleFry's Sunbeam for inspiration) |

Those are cool as hell! That looks like a nice example. Looking forward to seeing more!
The V8 project doesn't happen to be a P1800 does it? Love those too. |

Here is the plug at the bottom of the varnish tank :lol:
Soon to be a fuel tank, More to drain , dollar store pans work great ! No thats not gas on the ground its water from my wifes current DD Scion XB This project is starting in the house garage as my shop is full ! |

I know these cars can get a little rusty even here in Texas, but how bad is it
up there? Those Amazons are gorgeous cars, and arn't afflicted with small rear wheel arches like the 200s. |

Well lets just say they both have some patches in there future.
The green "beat" one may have less body rust than the white one however the white one is nicer and more complete/original . Lots of daylight in the 68 (green) floorboards . Picture from last winter |

Got a little done tonight . Was ready to battle the holdown screw on the tank. They were a breeze, super easy . Not usually what I run into.
I still have to remove the tank fitting so I can pop the tank up and out. Hope that fitting comes off half as easy as the screws ! One of the Volvo sites I check said be ready to grind and drill the screws. Had the grip Dr. out but did not need it. Most were finger tight. Was thinking I should replace the fuel line as well as clean /treat the tank but I am having second thoughts ? What do you all think ? |

Check your fuel filter for an indication of tank health. I'd at least flush it while the car is down.

I replaced the FF when I rebuilt the carb, I figure I'll replace it again (of course) and cut it open to take a look . Just put fresh gas in there, the gas now has so much corn squeezins in it
that it will melt that old varnish. Nuts and screws will help a lot if needed. |

Out the door this morning before 9 am to the swap meet to p/u a gas tank kit . Ended up with a few other goodies. Went back and picked up some old gas station price numbers , not sure why ?
Tank was fighting me turned out I missed a screw that was real close to the filler neck. Got the tank out and started rinsing with plain water, doesnt seem too bad.(?) Do an acid rinse tomorrow then use the kit to clean and seal. |

Then it dumped rain for 1/2 hr while I flushed water through the tank. making headway............. |

Well more hours and hours with the hose, chemicals and the rain . Fun stuff
Its now dry ! (thanks to my wifes hair dryer) My plan was to seal it last night Thursday but had family matters come up . Priority ! Tonight is a no go, picking up my son after work. Hope saturday morning I can find enough time to seal the tank as it take 4 days to dry enough to use again. I dont think I can reinstall this nasty looking tank w/o painting the outside. It was fully covered in undercoat but most got soft due to all the acid and metal prep splashing on it. Might Hammerite it ? Maybe I should just re-undercoat it ? Tips on removing undercoat residue ? wax/grease remover ? |

I think I would try to take all of the undercoating off of that car, I've noticed it caused rust in the floorboards of my 85 240 and a 82 242t I just sold,
it rusted from the outside in. BTW don't you just love the smell of funky gas tank and carburator spooge?:lol: |

Cool wagon! My first car (back in '82) was a '64 122s that was a hand-me-down from dad. I always loved that body style!

Thanks for all the replys ! Got the tank sealed whata bugger getting all the leftover paint back out . I wish I was thinking ahead because the POR15 kit
is a quart of sealer and I drain at least 3/4's of it back in the can, I could have sealed the 68's tank also . Too late now ! Keep that in mind if anyone is doing a tank . You can reuse the metal prep also. Last weekend I went up to my folks place to build a handrail with Sillyoldman (thanks again Silly) Weekend before that my son was in town so we worked on the slotcar track. Lost the home computor and all my pics . So I have been waiting for more progress to post. This weekend I am hoping for some burnout pics :lol: |

NHog, what a difference a day makes. That Saturday was cold and wet Sunday was nice and warm. Handrail was the easy part. Glad to help though. This Saturday is about fun. I'm headed to Marc's' house to split a rear axle, then we plan on coming to my place an getting the tranny back in the Buick and maybe start sorting engine harness wires.

Update with pictures ! Bent up some fuel lines, replaced the fuel pump and filter and cleaned the carb.
My helper painted the Army guy with left over POR 15 . after many coats of paint remover I got the undercoating off. In case you did not know the fuel pump on these can be mounted upside down :lol: |

My Hammerite paint was bad so I went with rustoleum white primer and some
off brand bomb can black. Hope it holds up ! Probably getting undercoated again anyway. So Silly where the Buick thread ? |
