Big Block header ?
Nubee here and I hope you all aren't tired of this ?. I looked around and did some searches but couldn't find what I was looking for.
I have a 72 C10 that originally had a 350. I converted it to a 454 and used all factory BB perches and hardware. It currently has cheap full length headers on it that hang down pretty low. I am installing 2 1/2" dropped spindles and 4" dropped rear coils. These headers are not going to work once it's lowered and besides that they are junk. Does anyone have any header suggestions that will give me decent clearance? I have also tried to find like a 3/4 length and I know Patriot makes some, but I have no idea if they will work in this truck. They give no fitment guide or anything on their web site. I would like for them to be coated as well. The Patriot I was looking at is part #737-H8013-1 (Jegs). Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
Re: Big Block header ?
I did forget to mention that the truck currently has the original automatic transmission in it but it will probably be changed out to a 700R4 or some other 4spd auto.

Re: Big Block header ?
welcome to the site from central ohio.
I am surprised no one has answered this yet.... i don't know about on big blocks, but I can give you recomendations if it was a SBC. Just don't skimp. This is an area that you honestly get what you paid for. Thick flanges are awesome, as are a set of pipes that you don't have to beat on to get them to fit. |
Re: Big Block header ?
I have a sat of patirots and the work very well. Id have to look for the part number to help ya though...

Re: Big Block header ?
Another thing I didn't mention is that the truck also has A/C.

Re: Big Block header ?
2 Attachment(s)
Attachment 441121
Attachment 441122 These are the patriot clipsters from summit. They were about $325 I think. They are 3/4 length. Mt truck is lowered about 5" in the front with 6" rear drop. Its got a 700r4 also. They fit great. The muffler shop had to cut the collector pretty short (the part that bolts to the end of the header) and bend the pipes right after, but it doesn't affect the flow at all. I haven't had any issues with them yet, but I haven't driven it much either. Hope this helps! |
Re: Big Block header ?
Thanks for the input guys. That's exactly what I needed. I thought the clippster looked like it should fit but wanted to verify that thought before I ran out and spent money on them. Thanks again.

Re: Big Block header ?
hey Security guy.., what type of mounts do you have? are they the '73+ or the older pad mount style?
just wondering, since I have the early style perches/mounts and I can't really see yours so well in the photos. I bought the Hedman block hugger style.. figured they'd fit, but they are too straight down and hit the mounts, not sure if I wanna continue to put them on and trim the mount, or buy another set of headers... |
Re: Big Block header ?
The mounts that I used are aftermarket. They are a tubular design from performance online I think. They were cheaper than finding an original set of big block mounts (at the time anyways). I kind of wished I had an original set, just for kicks, but my truck isn't all original anyway, so it don't really matter. Hope this helps.
