Carpet Cleaners

Okay guys, I wanted to see what everyone is using to clean up their old carpets. Last weekend I pulled everything out of my '69 and since my truck's carpet color isn't remade I need to find a product that will cleanup some of the areas without discoloring the fabric.

So what are you guy's using???

Re: Carpet Cleaners

For general cleaning, I use the carpet cleaner from the house. It has the upholstery attachment and works quite well. For spots and tough dirty areas, I use a product that is called TUFF STUFF. It can be purchased at O Reilly's, Walmart, and even Auto Zone. Spray it in and work the spot---it will get everything but the most stubborn stain out. I have not had any color issues with this stuff.

dish soap a good brush and the psi washer with the carpet out hanging over the chain link fence. just keep the washer back 8-10 inches. let it dry real good then scotch gaurd it and reinstall.

I have used Blue Coral Upholestry Cleaner on several occassions and have always had luck. Their Dri-Clean w/ Deodorizer works well and smells great!

I was just curious what products you guy's were using, and had luck with.

Folex!

This stuff took ink spots out of my house carpet from a pen my dog got a hold of a few years back and now I use it on everything. I pick mine up at the home depot. I have used it in cars, on clothes and so far never had any problems.

from there site
Non-Toxic, completely non-irritating to normal skin
Non-Flammable, contains no solvents of any kind
Odor-Free, no unpleasant chemicals
CFC and Petroleum Free

It made not far from where I live. I have heard one of the owners will drink shots of it because it is that safe... Just something I heard but give it a try
(as a cleaner not a beverage)

Laundry detergent, mixed in hot water. Use a rag and a scrub brush to work on the stains, have a shop vac around set up for picking up liquids. You may have to go over problem areas a few times, wetting scrubbing, vaccumming. I have had good luck with Tide with color safe bleach. If you don't mind taking it out, 463 is right, the pressure washer will get out all the dirt, with the carpet soaking wet, then use the powdered laundry soap with a scrub brush on the tuff stains. Then pressure wash to remove all the soap residue. Will take a couple of nice sunny days to dry out though.

Oh yeah, on those nasty grease and oil stains, simple green works great also.

I've used the Hoover Steam Vac many times. Just hot water and some Simple Green, makes it like new again.

I have used all types of things and to me grease lightnig, mean green, and purple power work wonderful i own my own detailing company and that is what i use and all my customers love the way it truns out. Spray on scrub in and vaccum up. it also works on seats dashes or anything dirty for that matter. Also if you have some tuff bugs on the paint i will spray a little and use a pressurewasher and they come right off.

Thanks for the info ej69c10! Did you notice any discoloring on any of the materials (seats, dash,...)? I'm a little apprehensive to spray a couple of different chemicals on my carpet since it isn't made any more.

Re: Carpet Cleaners

Sounds like a pretty good product. Anyone have any experience with it?

Here's the FAQ from their website:

What makes FOLEX different from other spot and stain removers?
FOLEX has been formulated specifically to remove virtually any spot and stain from any colorfast carpet or material that can be safely dampened with water. FOLEX achieves these amazing results without using solvents or other hazardous chemicals.

Will FOLEX attract dirt back to the cleaned area?
No. FOLEX is Non-Ionic (it has neither a positive or negative electrical charge) so FOLEX will not attract dust or dirt back to the cleaned area. And because FOLEX does not contain oily solvents, or leave a soapy residue, the spots will not come back.

Will FOLEX remove old stains?
Yes. As long as the stains have not dyed or bleached the carpet or material.

Will FOLEX remove the factory applied stain resistant treatment from my carpet?
No. Because FOLEX contains no petroleum distillates, or other organic solvents, it will not remove stain resistant chemicals properly applied at the time of manufacture.

What carpets or materials should FOLEX not be used on?
FOLEX should not be used on any carpet or material that could be damaged by water. You should always test a hidden area of a carpet or material for color fastness and color stability with FOLEX, before using FOLEX on a visible area.

What spots or stains will FOLEX not completely remove?
If the carpet or material has been Dyed, FOLEX can help by removing the excess dyeing substance from the carpet or material, but it will not change the color back. For example, some red drinks, yellow mustard, and hair dye, (if left on too long) will permanently change the color of the carpet or material. The key is to get to these types of stains as quickly as possible, so that FOLEX can remove them before they permanently change the color of the carpet or material.

Will my children and pets be safe playing in areas cleaned with FOLEX?
Yes. FOLEX is non-toxic, completely non-irritating to normal skin, requires no ventilation, and will not break down into dangerous byproducts.

I used it at the house and it is really good. it was recommenced to me by people who sell carpets. they said its the best stuff that you can buy everywhere. I used some of it in my car and it got rid of the stains. min was Very old chocolate and I sprayed it once or twice and wiped it up and its gone! iirc it cost about 8 bucks for a bottle at the store.
