proper backspacing for 20" Coys

i'm def leaning towards getting some 20" coys wheels,...looking at 20X8.5 in the front and 20x10 in the rear.

for tires, i'm thinking 255-40-20 in the front and 295-40-20 in the rear.

they offer two different options for backspacing in those two size wheels,

for the 20x8.5, they offer 4 3/4 ", 5 1/4" inch
for the 20x10", they offer 5", 5 1/2" inch

i'm going 5/7 drop with shackles/flip kit rear, springs/spindles up front

what do you all recommend? stance is everything, and i dont want to mess it up by getting the wrong stuff

thanks

I would go max backspacing front and back since you are going that low.

Not sure about the fronts but I think even with a 5" BS for the rear the wheels will sit in too far and you will need a spacer.

Bigarmzz, I think crawdadfox has the answer . I am having my 20x10's built with 5.25 inches of backspace and will be running the same tire size you mentioned . I measured the wheeltub and there is about 14 inches of clearance under there . 5.25 sitts it a little closer to the outside than the inside but it will give a nice amount of clearance on both . I know 4.5 inches of backspace will rub the outside . That being said , I would order the 5.5bs so you will have clearance . If you could get a 5.25 I would say go with that but since you only have two choices ,5.5. If I ever order Coys , they will be the max backspacing .

X 2 ON FRANKS & OTHERS COMMENTS > MAX BACKSPACING ON THE SIZES YOU WANT. lOT OF MONEY TO SPEND ON SOMETHING THATS GONNA RUB.

So, if I've calculated right 22x9's with a 5.5 bs in front and 5 in the rear should be perfect on a square body? Laid out of course!

Yes buddy, max backspace front and rear.

Max in the rear would be 5.5? I was thinking I could get away with 5?

with 5.5 on the rear how much tire to fender room is there i know it depends on tire width but just a appox. would be ok !
1 what is the narrowest tire i can put on a 8.5 inch rim i dont care for that wide front tire look !!!!

I would do 20x8.5's w/5.25" on front & 20x10's w/5.50" in the rear. The rears fit well w/the described drop. Depending on amounts of spindle + springs, the front tire choice might be a bit tall for that drop though....

The fronts were 255-40-20 Toyo's. The drop is 3" spindles & 1-coil removed from the factory sbc coils.

I didn't run the Coy's on there for more than a few hours because the front tires constantly buzzed the top of the inner wheel wells (they were purchased for my 68 but I put them on the 74 to see if I liked the grey wheels w/that paint scheme). I definitely needed some modified wheel wells for that combo.
