Lowering leaf spring trucks ?

Whats the difference in leaf spring rears on 67-72 trucks versus 73-up trucks? I see rear axle flip kits for the 73 trucks, but none for 72 trucks.Does anybody have a pictre of a 72 truck with just the extended shackles that lower about 2"? What if you use the shackles and take one leaf out of the springs, how much difference would that make? Thanks

Re: Lowering leaf spring trucks ?

i was wondering the same thing for the most part. i just picked up a 72 and with a love for slammed trucks i am looking to lower it. i frame offed and bagged my 92 s10 but with my c10 im looking to stay away form air so it can be my daily and to save money. i was wondering about leaf spring set up in the rear to lower. i have hd springs in mine so i was thinking of doing shakles and removing a leaf. has any one tried this. how much lower did it go. and did you have to notch the frame. im tring to stay away from notching. i have the welder steel and skills to do it im just not sure i want to on my daily. i need a number so i know how much to lower the front.

My 72 is also on leafs and i've seen pictures of this kit installed on a 73 and newer truck.

I assume it must fit the 67-72 as well but i'm not sure. Anyone know?

I used lowering shackles and removed 1 leaf from my 72 GMC, and it dropped about 3 1/2".

C-dog, does it matter which leaf spring you remove top, bottom midle. I have a 71 longhorn with 4 inch drop leaf springs, and I installed the drop shackles, but I need to drop the rear just a little more to achive the look that I want. I still have room, the truck has not bottomed out with a load. I have swaped out the bump stops for the button kind. So it looks like a still have about two to 3 inches.

The top one, I think it's called the overload spring, it should get you about 1-2".
