18"/20" Combo
I am looking at putting wheels on my new toy, and am looking at wheel combo options. There is a thread on here now talking about the 2.5/4" drop, and two trucks in there have 18" all around. They look great. I was wondering if someone has a truck with a 18" up front and 20" in the rear combo? I can't decide if I want to go 18's all around, 20's all around or do the combo. If you have some pics please post them, and your lowering stats. Also if you have any comments or suggestions I would love to hear them. Thanks

I know you are considering this because of your interest in the Boss wheels. I like them too, and would have a set in my garage right now if they offered them in a 20 that would fit the front. If you like that style and want 18's or 20's all around, look at the Coy's. Both pics show the exact same 18/20 wheel. Notice how much better they look on the truck? That because it's slammed over them and you don't see the size difference. |

:agree:
I love the coys. |

Re: 18"/20" Combo
From what I knwo right now the Coys AND the Boss do have clearence issues on the front hub/grease cap. The difference is Coys uses a cap that allows a custom spacer to solve the issue. Boss does not.
Look closely at the center of both wheels and you will see what I mean. http://www.coysoldschool.com/images/...eyLargeWeb.gif http://www.mobilefxonline.com/img/Boss-3380-Deep.jpg |

I thought should see this. If you are going to go with staggered sizes I suggest 20/22's
|
Re: 18"/20" Combo
Yeah I think 22's are just too big. Not enough tire. I will probably go either all 18's or 20's. Leaning more towards 20's. I like the tire size that I can get with the 18's. A little more cushion between me and the road. This isn't my daily driver, but I don't want to be jarred to death either . I do see what you mean about the center cap on the Boss wheels. Something I never thought about.
No worries about the thread jacking! You post up a lot of helpful info so we'll let it slide! |
Re: 18"/20" Combo
I don't like the look of the 18" Coys C5s, the 18" wheels look kinda funny. I'd go 20"s all the way around or 20" / 22". They make 22" tires with different series side walls, you don't have to get the ones that look like tread wrapped around the rim.

Re: 18"/20" Combo
I know that you can order the spinners for the Boss wheels, and I wonder if that helps with the front hub issue. Is the issue a height problem, or is it a diameter problem? Looking at the wheel, I could see it having both issues.

Re: 18"/20" Combo
I don't know about the Boss wheels, but to fit my Coys C5s I had the have my rotors turned down at the end of the hub by the dust cover for the spindle nut to get the wheels on.

Re: 18"/20" Combo
has anyone tried the bullet center caps coys has? i wonder if they have the same issue

Hey man, I was rollin to a friends house Friday and stumbled upon your place and saw your rig. Those wheels look good on there.

Re: 18"/20" Combo
yeah they aren't bad, just not my favorite. Hotrod73 is interested in them if I can find a set to replace them.
You should have called me and stopped by. Even if I'm at work I could always take time to talk trucks! |

I have 18's and 20's and my truck has a 5.5"/7" drop. I agree with Ken. If the truck won't sit really low, go 20" all around.

Re: 18"/20" Combo
I'm still up in the air about how low I'll be going. I'm looking at a 3/4 drop. Does anyone have a similar setup? I could go lower if I'm going with 18's. I like both ways, just can't make my mind up. I know both ways look good, just which will give me the best all around look. I don't want to go so low that I scrape on everything, but I want it lower than stock too. I would really like to keep that rake look to it instead of level. Just a preference. I figured the 18's would give me more of a meatier tire as far as sidewall options go, but I know the 20's will fill the fender well gap up better. I just don't know what to do!

Re: 18"/20" Combo
Hey john I think the 3/4 drop would be nice... I think thats what im going to go with.. I like 20's and everyone has them now days but i think your right on the 18's you have a beefier tire and will probably ride a little better, plus if you do the 3/4 drop with 18's it would really look nice :)

Re: 18"/20" Combo
btw i get off at 4 today and ill try to grab that wheel for you today and bring it by

Re: 18"/20" Combo
Yeah I'm still on the fence. I think it's going to take more research. Like I saide before I'm a visual guy. I need to see the two options to make my decision. My cousin has a 94 with 20's on it. So when I get it lowered I will take them off and slap them on the truck to get perspective. Then I'll find me a set of 18's and do the same. Maybe that will help my decision.
Chris- Just let me know whenever you get it. No rush! Thanks again! |
Re: 18"/20" Combo
If it were me, I would go 5/7 on 20's all around. Ask around and you will find that most guys wish they had done a bit more drop.
I don't recall anyone ever saying they want to raise it back up to a 3/4 after doing a 5/7. |
