Re: BBC or LS!
I to have been having this dilemma... but a stroked 454... man I would be all over that. The lsx would be nice as an update. For me, the swap from the 350 to an ls1 or 454 seems to be about the same price so I flip flop between the two all the time, but it's turning out to be about 51% 454. Mines not a daily driver so that plays a big factor. I think ls1 would be the winner if it was. As usual this site is so full of good stuff that the more I look into the choice the more every bolt & screw on the truck ends up getting changed... oh well these are good choice to have to make.

Re: BBC or LS!
My view is, the Big block will look stock, never know you did it....I think stock should be left to people who want a stock vehicle, I much preffer "improved" vehicles ,aftermerket intakes, lowered 2wd, agressive tires on 4wd...my point is that small and big block chevy engines are technological dinosaurs. That does not make them bad, just more like last years news papers...there is info in it, just not current.
Put the LS in it, get it right (that means leave the FI), and make Big Block power with small block weight ,16 MPG, and you will even be able to start it this winter to get to your ski equipment. |
Re: BBC or LS!
If they're both going to be carbed, I say do the 454. But if you have access to the EFI stuff, then I think the LS is the better choice.
That said, if the LS stuff had been as affordable when I did my BBC as it is now, I'd be running a 6.0. |

Yup, when I put my 454 together the 6.0 had just came out and they were pretty high-dollar. Now they're super affordable, and BBC internals are still pretty spendy.
I do like my BBC torque though. Just not too fond of the mileage... |
Re: BBC or LS!
when i said driven i meant not a trailer queen it will be mainly for weekends. i want the paint scheme and interior to look stock, everything else i want to be better. i am a power guy but the ls1 can make decent power and would be reliable where as the the big block would make more power but be less reliable
