Hey Guys,
My 69 SB has no body trim on the sides and I would like to add the top and or bottom trim.
Can this be done from the outside by installing the clips or am I asking for trouble here?
How do the clips get installed?

There are two ways to install it. The factory way is drill holes all the way down both sides and use the factory type clips or buy the aftermarket glue on clips.
If I'm not mistaken though you still have to drill the holes for the brake light trim and tailgate. They may make those now also but they didn't when I redid mine the first time. I have 2 sets of the trim for a long bed sitting in the garage. I did away with it on the 71 this time.

This is mine being welded up. Give you a idea of how many holes you will need. All those little shinny spots are trim holes.

I am in the process of installing mine now. On mine the clips on the end of each piece are bolt on and the ones in the middle of each piece are stick on. The bolt on ones are fairly easy to get to except for the front of the doors and the rear of the front fenders. There are a couple of different manufacturers of the trim and you have to make sure the clips that come with it fit in the trim. The metal bolt in clips that came with my trim are too short and will not stay in the trim. The plastic stick on clips that came with it are bowed too much so there is not enough contact between the sticky pads and the body metal. I was lucky enough to have enough original clips to use on my new trim. I don't know why you couldn't use push in and stick on for it but I would make sure that the new stick on ones were fairly flat and not excessively bowed like mine were. I am going to do a more detailed post on the install when I get finished putting it on. There was no manufacturer name on my trim (I can see why) but I'm sure it was NOT Counter Parts trim.

I have about a half box of the clip on clips if anybody needs them. I'll try and remember to take a picture of them when I get home.

Thanks for everyones help here, but now I am wondering whether I really want the trim. I have real issues with drilling holes in my newly painted truck, but I learned quite a bit here. Thanks again

You can buy the glue on ones but as stated be sure they will work first. The ones I had kept the trim away from the paint and stuff would get in behind it and after washing the truck it would run out leaving trails everywhere I didn't like that.
