opinions

Everybody has differant opinions.I recently bought a swb frame from a board member. He was building a driver and stated the frame as such with $2200 in new parts. The frame looked nice in the pics and I expected some pitting since he stated it was for a driver.I paid $1600 for the rolling frame $900 in advance and $700 upon picking it up.I drove 400 miles 1 way to drop off parts to another board member and pick it up.I had been up for 2 days when I got there so I just took a quick look loaded it and hit the road. After bouncing around on the trailer for over 400 miles on the trip home I noticed the paint cracking and rust scales on the trailer when I got home.I started poking between the frame and the bracing plates above the rear springs. The more I poked the more crumbled away.Attachment 444109
Attachment 444112 Attachment 444113 Attachment 444116 Attachment 444117My opinion of it is it is a pile of scrap metal. It was rusted paper thin on both sides and loaded with nice shiny paint.I don't see how anyone who cleaned up this frame and saw what was there would wasted their time bolting any new parts on it.I was so disgusted I removed the new parts and cut it to small pieces with my sawsall so I can haul it to the scrapper tomorrow and not have to look at it anymore. With fuel for the trip I now have $1750 and an 800 mile road trip invested in a new posi rearend and a new frontend. You can believe I have learned my lesson and no matter how tired and sleepy I am I will not trust anyone elses opinion and some shiny paint again. At least I already have a perfect swb frame sand blasted to bare metal laying in the floor of my garage that I can paint and install the new parts on.:dohh: |
Re: opinions
Oh man! That's a lot of $ for a rear and front end... I hope all the new parts were a front disc conv with spindles, springs, shocks and bars to make up for the large cash outlay. Have you peaked inside the rearend yet?
I know how you feel as I am in the middle of a camper teardown. Missrepresented. I am making a utility trailer out of it. An expensive one..... |
Re: opinions
All the new parts where as represented springs, shocks, brakes, balljoints etc all where brand new with 0 miles.I just don't see how anyone would waste their time putting that much money in new parts on such a junk frame.

Re: opinions
Sorry to hear about the dilema. I was raised to trust people,go by there word and make a deal with a handshake. It is very hard to deal this way in todays world.
