What use is a 1ton Chev deisel drivetrain??
 

I know this has been talked about before. What would the swap be like? Would it be worth the trouble? Anybody within driving distance interested in something like this?

My mechanic has a 1996 Chev 1 ton 2wd van with the 6.5 deisel. It runs and drives good, but it did have an under dash harness fire. Milage unknown, I can check tomorrow when I pick up my truck. I think it could make a good engine donor for some hauler.

I'm not sure on the details but I've heard that you can take a computer controlled automatic transmission (WITH OVERDRIVE) out of deisel, take the computer, swap it into an older vehicle, and drive.

I hope the under dash fire didn't take the tranny computer out. I heard it is stashed up there some where.

That is exactly what I was thinking 68. Now is the time to own a 2wd crew cab and drop in the entire engine, trans, and rear end. I did a search on Ebay and it looks like they get pretty good money for the engine. I might have to call sakohntr to see if this is something up his alley.

What are these engines like? Anybody drive one? What kind of pulling power and mileage? Maybe I should look at putting it into my C30 Motorhome. Well not for the few miles it will travel each year....

My friend had a 96 (I think) K2500 with a 6.5. It was a good running truck, had nice lower end torque, and got decent mileage, from what I can recall.

At one time, we had a member here that was from Australia, and had one of our trucks with a diesel drivetrain. I believe his board name was Aussie. From what I can recall, he said the swap wasn't all that hard.
