WTB-Mid-Late 60's Corvette Steering Wheel
Post up what you may have! Here's a pic of what I'm looking for. Mel has installed in his truck.

Re: WTB-Mid-Late 60's Corvette Steering Wheel
I think I still have a couple of these on the shelf. Once you run one of these wheels you'll never be as happy with a different style...just the right diameter and thickness. There are also a bunch of different styles of horn buttons that can be swapped out almost instantly so you can change things around once in a while just for fun.
Sometimes the used ones are 'gummy' and can't seem to be cleaned. I don't know if it's too much Armor All or sun, but I haven't found anything that will help them once they get to that point. You'll also have to run a '68 or before passenger car hub as it's the same diameter as the 67-72 columns. These were also available as an option on 70-73 Camaros & 70-72 Chevelles. They were also put on a ton of Buicks through the late 70's, including the Buick version of a Monza (a Sunbird maybe?). I'll check tomorrow to see what I still have... |
Re: WTB-Mid-Late 60's Corvette Steering Wheel
Classic Industries carries a steering wheel that is similar to that - obviously a repro, but they do look nice.

Re: WTB-Mid-Late 60's Corvette Steering Wheel
I too like using that steering wheel..
Just an FYI.. GM called that wheel a "comfort grip" I also agree with Webrigs.. if you run across a GUMMY one .. Pass.. nothing I have found cleans it off.. |
Re: WTB-Mid-Late 60's Corvette Steering Wheel
IMHO the 'gummy'/'sticky' is due to age and sun.

Re: WTB-Mid-Late 60's Corvette Steering Wheel
You can always keep cleaning a sticky one every so often with a Mr. Clean Magic eraser, I have found that they help a ton on the few I have had over the years. Trevor

Re: WTB-Mid-Late 60's Corvette Steering Wheel
Hey Doug,... I just bought one from the MuscleFactory for my '69.
(They advertise in Super Chevy Magazine and others). These are my all time favorite steering wheels. LIke previously posted,... get the pre-'69 hub assembly (67-68 Camaro) and they will bolt right up. They are expensive as a repop,... but nothing looks better in my opinion. I have one of these, on three of my vehicles. |
Re: WTB-Mid-Late 60's Corvette Steering Wheel
Keith is right. I put a repro on my 68. I will buy another for my 72 4x4. I think it is the best sized wheel for our trucks. I would'nt hesitate to buy another repro.

Re: WTB-Mid-Late 60's Corvette Steering Wheel
Had a couple of those over the years in Buicks I was thinkin of one of those for my 72K5 since my OE wheel is trash and i dont care for them. Im sticking with the factory 3 spoker in my 68
as a note the gumminess is the plastic breaking down and will always be gummy... they came in several colors on buicks... i had a tan one and a black one.. ive seen red etc... Ill take one if the price is right.... let me know thanks |
