1967 C10 Custom Big Window
5 Attachment(s)
Finally getting around to putting the pics together and trying to do them in order. My build is a 67 Custom Big Window A/C truck, all original except for the rust. The truck was given to me (woohoo!!) by a great friend last September. I helped him clear a peice of land for a older gentleman who gave him the truck as payment. It wasn't pretty - I was stung 11 times by hornets and he gave me about $50 for helping him. :chevy: Guess it paid off!!!!
Here is what has been done so far, and I will try to keep the pics coming and update them on a regular basis. The day he gave it to me it had been sitting at a body shop for about 5 years. Attachment 445546 I had the truck towed to the shop and realized it's potential. Attachment 445547 I thought a little paint a little interior.....nope....full teardown. Attachment 445548 Attachment 445549 I started at the rear, sandblasted then primed, painted and clear coated the frame. Attachment 445550 |

I didn't know what I was getting into:dohh:
Attachment 445561 Attachment 445562 I pulled the front clip, suspension and core support. Attachment 445563 Just a matter of time......and time.....and time. Attachment 445564 Started the rockers, and finished pulling the cab. Attachment 445565 |

I have recently worked on the sheetmetal - rockers (inners and outers) floor pans, gas filler delete, bed stake holes delete, rear marker light delete, and just started the upper right roof rust delete.
Attachment 445628 Attachment 445629 Attachment 445630 I finished sandblasting and painting the chassis, and started installing the airbags and fuel cell. I did a disk brake 2.5 in drop spindle and added a 71 rearend for the 5 lugs. An adjustable tracbar was a must for the bags and may have to move the front crossmember forward about 1 inch. The front crossmember was already installed and now it has to be removed to move it forward:m6: suppose we all learn from these builds.....errrrrr. Well better to do it right the first time. The bags in the back were not quite as hard to figure out.
Attachment 445634 Attachment 445635 Attachment 445633 Well, the great Southern weather is not cooperating so 2 weekends without much progress. I will keep the posts and pics coming as the project progresses. Thanks for looking!:smoke: |

I didn't expect to find that much rust on top of the cab, and it's still not done.

Thanks Oarngesi, still wanting to see the motor between the frame rails. Should have it back at the end of this month. Still wondering if the rims will fit the bed when airred out?!!? 22s on the back may cause some clearance issues. My car has 17s and it dwarfs them.

Sold the Studebaker!!!
Attachment 452328 Have a little $$$ to put in the projekt 67! Got some 72 Blazer seats for it and some new Custom badges for the doors. Paid the machine shop for the engine rebuild.....well, about half. Attachment 452329 Had to make another payment on my Yamaha R6, that I don't have anymore too. Well....at least I'm still here to make the payments!!!!! Attachment 452330 |

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
Thanks bro, wanted to make my first real project a frame-off. Got the windsheild out this past weekend and wanted to put it back.....rust at the top under the weatherstriping and the bottom. Got the top taken care of for the most part, but still have to work on the bottom. Found a great bodyman who comes to the shop and does some great sheetmetal work.

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
Hey slick,
what kind of fuel cell is that? It looks like it fits perfect! Good job! So far. |
Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
Looks like a nice build...great work so far...

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
It is from Summit Racing (SUM-290108) is the part number it is $153 bucks right now. It did take a little persuasion to fit....but only 3/4 of an inch or so off of the back crossmember on the passenger side from the center to the rail at an angle. Thanks for the props.....trying to keep the project goals in line!

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
You are lucky with the accident on the R6... I lost my best friend last March while he was riding his bike.
Anyway... back to a happy note. Awesome build! It looks like things are coming together nicely. |
Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
Thanks 72! I was worse than the bike! Things are working out nicely. Supposed to rain here in the Houston area for a couple of days.....again. Have you heard anything from bigmikescustomz, or his health?

Here is the score. I found a bed on CL for $750, got the bed, a right side window regulator, AND delivery............$600. Thought that was a good deal!!! The bed is really clean, but the tailgate is an aftermarket so it will be going on CL. The bedside trim is also going to be sold.

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
Thanks Hart_Rod!!! Hey Nuke1, been checkin out your build too.....SWEET. I agree with you, the rims look great with the trim on the bed. I have already filled the trim holes everywhere else, but it would make a nice change when I want to give my ride a different look in the future!
