LS1 vs gen I fitment question

Ive been contemplating doing an LS1 swap in the near future and wanted to know if The external mounting dimensions are the same. basically do I have to modify my mounting brackets to run an LS series motor, or will it bolt right onto the stock mounting surface?

Re: LS1 vs gen I fitment question

Nope. All you need is a set of motor mounts from ECE or someone else that makes them.

top rear deck of the block.

Make sure you get everything you can. PCM, harness, everything you can. It will save you money later.

Re: LS1 vs gen I fitment question

Tahoes didn't come with 6.0s that I know of. Most had 5.3L and some had 4.8L. You could get the 6.0L in 3/4ton pickups, vans, escalades and I believe suburbans, and maybe Denali. Later (about 2005ish) they started putting some 6.0Ls in SSRs, Silverado SS, and a few others.

Just make sure you know what you're buying and don't assume that because it came from vehicle X it's a 6.0L. BTW, the 5.3L are almost as good and a little cheaper. Either way they're a good choice.

Re: LS1 vs gen I fitment question

You can also find 6.0 in full size vans as well (LQ4 version). If you ever watch some of the salvage auctions, you may stumble on a pretty good deal.

Just saw an 07 Chev Express with a 6.0 that was rolled sell for less than $1K.

Re: LS1 vs gen I fitment question

Now thats a good deal .... less then 1k is a damn good deal.

If you get your hands on a 05 model your setup will be really nice.
