Paint oppinions
 

Hi id like some oppinions on paint

has anyone ever used the single stage flat red off ebay
is there any benefit buying off ebay or having it mixed locally

for a satin finish is single stage or 2 stage paint better

if you use the 2 stage can you get a nice shine from it later with a new coat of clear

personally i would never use single stage... it doesnt hold up to the rays from the sun very well and it will fade quicker... two stage costs a bit more but you will have the clear actually over the paint instead of mixed in... thats just my opinion tho.. at the body shop i work at we just use single stage on semis, trash trucks, and big big things

I imagine most satin type paint jobs are single stage instead of 2 stage (base/clear). There are satin type clears out there and/or additives you mix in with a regular clear to dull it down.

I'm not real familiar with some of these satin finishes, but single stage paints have gotten better over the years in regards to UV protection which is what can "break" paint down and cause it to "chalk" up.

In regards to buying it online.....there's some good deals to be had, but if you are buying a particular color, buy extra in case you have a "do over" or you need some touch up later. This will insure that you have a good color match.

I don't see any reason why you can't later apply a glossy clearcoat over your existing satin finish as long as it's prepped correctly.......ultimately I'd check with the paint manufacturer.

there are numerous advantages to buying localy. one most importantly is matchability. if you ever need to redo a fender you can have a pint or quart mixed and it will match. also if you get half way through the project and need thinner or hardner or another quart of color. or just some tech support. give em a call. there are several options or "economy" single stages out there ppg has omni. dupont has nasson. both easy to use and less than half the cost of their "premier" line. i would not hesitate to use either. if you want the flat look i think the best way to go is single stage. i am doing my truck hugger orange single stage. and will likely clear it to get that extra pop.

buying local no shipping you also have someone who you can look in the eye and ask questions of .. plus theres the fact that you're helping a neighbor keep his job
