78 2wd.
Well...got laid off from the patch 2 weeks ago so i decided a break was in order before i got after looking for a new job.....
So far i have manged to finish an 83 CJ7 crate 350-700R4-Dana 300 swap. Actually the swap had been done...but rather poorly so she got a crate tbi motor and Advaced Adapters motor mounts so the motor sits in the frame correctly....po was a moron and just cut a hole in the firewall to get the dizzy in the motor. After the meat and potatoes was done i had to hand rewire everything from the firewall out...but she looks good and sounds even better. Anyways i have been tinkering with my 78 2WD K5 here and there. Had to replace the dizzy vacum pot...cap-rotor-plugs-wires etc. Still hasn't cured the stumble off idle but i flushed the cooling system tonight and backed her in dry so i could swap hoses etc. And i decided to yank the carb and vat it....so hopefully she'll be running better than ever shortly. And i might get a bug in me arse and keep the running 78....rust spots and all. It looks like the front fenders are done...but i have spares...along with the mid way taco'd hood. She'll need rockers...and some work above the wheel wells due to the chrome molding and behind the rear wheels...but so far she is kinda clean other than that. Currently have her on stands in the shop to take a peek underneath while i am at it. http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z...100_573750.jpg For you older members...sry for the lapse in being around but the oilfield equals lots of money but no down time... So...anybody have some used drop parts laying around that might be ava since she's in the air? Lol. DW |

Re: 78 2wd.
Just hopin i don't loose my shop with the job loss...
This is actually the first time since it was built that i have had the time to actually work in it. DW |
Re: 78 2wd.
Hope things work out for you, that would suck if you lost that..

Re: 78 2wd.
Yes it would suck wet azz...but lessons learned...and a divorce are in my future.....and a move to phx i think. Eventually the oil patch will pick up again and i'll find a job so on my own the coin will not be squanderd by a wife.

Re: 78 2wd.
Wow, Doug, hope things work out for the better. Look out for a regular email from me.
I flat forget which of your projects needed my custom steel rear bumper with the tow receiver - I still got it if you need it. |

Carb rebuilt. Replaced dizzy vacum pot. Center console scrubbed and redyed. Rad has a leak so out she comes tomorrow....grrr. Left fender off...hood off....right fender off tomorrow. Windshield and gasket out tonight. Makin some progress. Still have to sell her but i want her to go in 100 percent functional shape. DW |
Re: 78 2wd.
That blazer is clean, plus stock as a clock. Someone will get a sweet ride. If you lived a little closer I would have to take that off your hands..;)

Re: 78 2wd.
The hood was broken in the middle from sticky hinges...the fenders had rot in the bottom sides behind the wheels so they are being replaced with good stuff from my collection. Still needs rockers and patch panels for behind the rear wheels to be solid.

Re: 78 2wd.
New rust free front clip is on.
Going to continue to fight with the new windshield rubber tonight so she has a non cracked front glass in her tonight...gettin there. Waiting on the rad shop to rod and psi test a spare radiator for her. DW |
Re: 78 2wd.
Do you have the install tool for the windshield? I couldn't imagine putting one of these windshields in with out it. WD40 is your friend. Lube the rubber and the glass liberally and re apply as need.

Re: 78 2wd.
Yes...i have that tool. However they sold me an after market seal that has the lock ring built in....i am waiting for the neighbor who is an ex body guy to save my arse...i decided crying uncle and having an unbroken windshield is the cheaper route.
Took the wifes carpet cleaner to the interior carpet...came out nicer than i thought. Now i just need to peruse ebay or the local bone yard for a factory pole style radio as this dash has never been jacked up for a DIN chassis radio... DW |
