Who sells the correct bumper bolts?
I bought some from a catalog and the rounded heads are larger and flatter than stock, but it's basically just a thin piece of metal formed over the bolt head, so of course they were already dinged up out of the box.
They also don't fit flush in the round recesses in the front bumper. Are the original bolts stainless or chrome? Who's a good source for some shiny ones that won't rust quickly? I'm sick of this overseas garbage the catalogs try to pass off as replacement parts. If it doesn't fit ANY truck properly, why bother? |
Re: Who sells the correct bumper bolts?
I had to buy 2 different sets and still got the wrong type for my 68. From what I saw, there are different style bolts for the different years. Not all were the same.
I got some from a farmers coop over here that sells these bolts and they were closer in style than the ones I ordered. Since I was going to paint them anyway, I am using those. |

Interesting, I guess I'm wrong...
These are what I got, Brothers says they were used from 67-91 and have the stainless cover: http://www.brotherstrucks.com/images/BOLT002.JPG These chrome ones resemble what's on my truck, used from 1947-1966: http://www.brotherstrucks.com/images/BOLT001.JPG |

The ones I had resemble the bottom ones but slightly less rounded on top. Mine were also capped. |
Re: Who sells the correct bumper bolts?
Your bottom pic is OEM...GM discontinued them in the last year.
The middle pic is chrome repop & they rust fast & bad. The top pic is the closest replacement available & most common. I sent NOS ones to an importer who sells the top one, a few months ago, to see if he could/would get them done correctly. |
Re: Who sells the correct bumper bolts?
Those OEM ones do look smaller in diameter. Dammit, no wonder the replacements don't fit right.

Re: Who sells the correct bumper bolts?
I had the same problem

Re: Who sells the correct bumper bolts?
Just go to home depot or lowes and buy some stainless steel carriage bolts. If you spend a little time polishing the heads, you can't tell them from the originals. Plus, the cost will be nearly the same, they don't dent and they don't rust........:).

You could try Motor City Fasteners, Hazel Park, MI.
http://www.motorcityfasteners.com/ If they don't have it they may be able to make it. :5150: |
Re: Who sells the correct bumper bolts?
Mcmaster Carr has stainless ones at about 10 for $10.
http://www.mcmaster.com/#92356a626/=18u8wl The head is .844" which seems correct. I'll measure when I get home. The replacements were probably over 1" diameter and dont fit the bumper well. |

Re: Who sells the correct bumper bolts?
I just took my OEM ones to autozone and bought what was closets. Guess I just got lucky.

Re: Who sells the correct bumper bolts?
I got mine from NAPA.
But, I wasn't looking for "restoration". I just wanted to put the bumper on the front of the truck. Cost me about 3 bucks for bolts and nuts. |
