Blazer frame vs Shortbed Frame
 

Are there any differences between the Shortbed frames and the blazer frames?

i have a chance to pick up a shortbed in ok shape and running, and was wondering if I could swap my tub onto it while I finished up my frame and suspension.

The frames are different. The short bed frame is longer. It also is not set up for the tub mounts.

truck frames are also wider from the cab back. the spring and shock mounts are not in the same location.

I shortened a 72 suburban frame down to 104" without any issues.

ok thats nice, but thats not what he asked. he asked what the diff is. and i told him. if your not sure still. them I will be happy to use a measuring tape and show you. I have a gm 12 bolt from my doner truck its spring mounting pads are about 3 in off on each side. the frame width on a truck is wider than a blazer. Did you also use the blazer suspension under it... did you have a lift kit. If you did. did you spread the leaf springs out... hmmm I think not. Im thinking u used the suburban suspension.

There is trailing arm suspension, and leaf spring suspension. On all Chevies under 1ton, they had trailing arms as standard when it comes to 2wd, leaf for 4 wd.

Leafs were optional for 2wd. GMC had leafs as standard equipment.

Been at these trucks for a while pup, no need to act like a smartass.

I have 3, THAT'S THREE, BLAZERS OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW THAT I HAD TO WORK FOR.

1 has a shortbed frame shortened down to 104", the other has a Suburban frame down to 104", same suspension bub, I have paid my dues.

The blue one with black hood was built bolt by bolt from the ground up by me. Especially the top.

2wd shortbed frame and drivetrain underneath. Yes it is a good idea to make some body mounts from the frame to the tub just behind the doors, just like the regular blazer frame has.

The next time I do it over, the frame is getting boxed to cut down on body flex, the movement at the top of the doors when the top is off.

70 suburban, I hate to say it but you're both out of line, and wrong.

A shortbed frame or blazer frame as long as both are 4x4 don't have different widths or at least the axles will bolt up between the two.

you would have to prove this to me. I just went into this same problem when I blew the rear out of my blazer. I tried to take there rear out of my gmc... no go then said well leme see if I can take it from the 4wd short bed..... no go. sprng saddles were to wide.

It's imperfect, but it works. Steel retractable top, there are a few other shots on this site about it.

Brian did an amazing job on this... BTW hi is not an engineer. I have talked to him about this b-4 lots of hard work and man hours to make it happen.

Thanks man. Sorry for responding like I did.

I got off into old race cars and right now it's difficult to find the time to get back on this project. It took so much of my time for years. Started when I was 26, got it out when I was 35.

I keep thinking, 'aircraft aluminum and fiberglass'. I had to go all steel here since that is the only thing I am able to weld.

I would post some more detailed pics of the working underneath, but the whole issue of "public domain" bothers me a bit. I have had others tell me I should patent it. Yet, I have talked with those that have had patents and in the long run, patents are really weak and for the most part, benefit the paper industry. You know, red tape, involves paperwork and uses up their product.

Well there is a loop hole... The trick is to take pics. Make blueprints and story the operation. Then send it throug the mail to yourself. Dont open it and you will have documintation that its your idea.. Do a couple of them so if you wind up in court you will have an un opend document stamped by the federal gov. That says the date that you hade this.
