New To Site
2 Attachment(s)
My Name is Randal Collins and I am new to the site. I am a Automotive Instructor here in Bowling Green Kentucky and my class and I have been working on my 87 Chevy Fleetside. We have lowered it 5,7 and have completely gone over it mechanically trying to get it ready for this summer. This project is proof that there are still alot of young gearheads out there that love these trucks and love working on them. Future plans include paint and interior work. Let me know what you guys think.

Re: New To Site
Truck looks good for a start. Keep them going! We always can use new people coming into and keeping our industry going. What kinda school you instruct at?
AND...:welcome2: |
Re: New To Site
I teach at a Area Tech Center. Our kids range from Sophmore to Seniors in High school. Thanks for the input.

Re: New To Site
Two thumbs up for you! Your truck looks great just how it is! I love the factory look and to have young kids learning on these trucks makes it that much better. I learned by trial and error and have never taken a class, but thats why my knowledge is limited. I would love to take a class and learn everything there is about autos, but everyday life don't allow for it. I don't have much advise on your truck though....I would leave it just like it is. Looks great and keep it up!!!

Re: New To Site
that is cool that you are inspiring another generation of young gearheads to love old GM iron and especially the genre of trucks that we love so much. I would wonder if you and your class would consider doing a picture and text writeup documenting all your progress that we can put in our projects and builds section?

Re: New To Site
Welcome to the forum Autoteach87. We would love to see your students in action. Post pics of the project as it moves along.

Re: New To Site
Thanks Guys,
I will try to round up some pics with the kids working on it. We have started sanding on it in the last few days getting it ready for paint. I talked to a former student who is going to Nashville Auto Diesel's collision repair course and he is going to paint it when we get ready. |
Re: New To Site
Welcome to the board. It's always nice to meet other people that share our love for cars and trucks! I agree with Ken. Get us some pics of the class working on it. Congratulations on sharing your love and knowledge for cars on to the future generation! My hat is off to you!!:clap::clap:

Re: New To Site
If you put together a series of pics, we can move this to the build forum. Encourage your students to check the forum.

Re: New To Site
That would be cool to have some of the kids chime in with their experiences, and stories. Good idea Ken

Re: New To Site
That sounds great. Thanks for all the input. I showed the kids the site in class today and they enjoyed all the responses and pics of these type trucks from all over the country. I will work on getting more pics and set down and document what we have done.

Re: New To Site
Awesome. Glad to hear they liked what they saw.

Re: New To Site
What's it have for running gear? You guys didn't go dumpster diving at the Corvette plant did ya? LOL. It's good to see the kids getting into this hobby and actually doing something besides playing video games.
|
Re: New To Site
Nice truck. Keep up the good work with those kids.
|
Re: New To Site
Hmm that is a good idea. You can actually see the corvette plant from our school. lol. It is completely stock with a 305 and 700r4. We have it running great so it will probably stay stock for now.
