02 silverado engine knock
Does any other member here... have a 02 silverado with engine knock noise? with cold or warm engine
|
Re: 02 silverado engine knock
Doesn't sound like we have the same issue, but my 01 GMC has a low end tick/slight knock when cold. Goes away when warmed-up. I thought lifters but have read that there is a "cavitation" issue with the oil pumps. It is not supposed to be detrimental and GM isn't doing anything about it.
Try Googling "02 Silverado engine knock" and you'll be amazed at the various blog sites that come up. Actually, it is kind of depressing when you read about the numerous problems that some people have been having. I read two blogs where guys have added the Lucas engine oil treatment and the ticking noise has gone away. Hope this helps |
Re: 02 silverado engine knock
Short-skirt piston noise; they "rock" in the bore some and make noise.

Re: 02 silverado engine knock
Does it tick or knock? These motors are notorious for the ticking sound. My brothers 05 had a lifter come apart a few weeks ago and he replaced his 5.3 for $450 from LQK parts.

Re: 02 silverado engine knock
maybe a tick? when i accelerate, you can hear this vehicle 100 feet away."

Re: 02 silverado engine knock
thread moved to the 99 - 08 board.

Re: 02 silverado engine knock
the vortec's from 99 on have that problem--gets worse over time and in cold weather. Does not appear to affect performance or engine life. You should NOT hear it once warm up and driving. huck

Re: 02 silverado engine knock
That's what I said - "cavitation"?
There are several blog sites that talk about this issue and it is widespread. I just purchased the Lucas oil treatment and am waiting for next oil change, to add. |
