I'm new here..Need help Thanks

hi everyone this is my first posting..i got my self into other hobbie again.
my brother has a 87 chevy silverado shortbox, and my cusin has a 85 chevy shortbox. And they are both very nice trucks..My brother's is bright red,and my cusin's is black. So i could not be left out, i just bought a 86 chevy shortbox stepside, and it needs work..This where you guys come in..What color should i paint it..I'm looking for a super nice clean look..no two tone's,no flames, and no paint that changes colors..So before i start this project i need to know what color to go with..If you have any stepside's post pics if you don't leave your opinion..Thanks..Oh since this is a project i'll be posting alot for your guyes help..And i will see to post pics of those trucks i know you guys would like them..thanks again.

first off welcome to the board! Ive always had a soft spot for steppers.. is it 2wd or 4wd? what color interior? what are your plans? wood or steel floor bed? stock raised or lowered?
Personally im partial to darker colors like blue but alot depends on what youre going for in the way of the look?
When you start your resto please make a build thread!

thumb through here to see alot of trucks.

I think the color you pic really depends on your personality.

Welcome, even though I'm considered a "noob"myself.

I always thought black or white were very clean colors.

Add a set of Torque Thrust wheels and your set. :chevy:

Re: I'm new here..Need help Thanks

First of all thanks for the welcome..it's a 2wd,the interior is red not a bright red like a blood red..it has a steel floor but not a 100% thinking about a wood one.MY PLANS.mmmmm.lowerd but not to much. nice wheels like 17' but try to keep the the truck looking more factory look..but you know just little things like billet grill, whitewall tires, duals, titnted windows, canvas, stuff like that..It's not going to be a show truck just something to say wow that's a super nice truck. And i want to drive it not everyday but a enough..MY PERSONALITY::::: i can be funny, can be serious when needed to be serious, easy to get a long with,NOW this feels like a dateing ad. lololo..I hope tha's helps like i said i'm new here..Thanks

Ya, put up a pic. But as a painter, I ask you this...WHAT DO YOU LIKE? No offense but it is your truck! Do what makes you happy. As far as thoughts on color? A deep red, lots of factory options there, would look nice on it. Jeep has a color currently that is called Red Rock Crystal. It is on the Wrangler so it should be easy for you to find one to see. That would make a nice stepside, and you can keep the stock interior.

Early Wheel Company, Stockton Wheel, and Wheel Vintiques make larger diameter stock looking wheels.

It looks good. I personally like Orange. Check out my build thread "OrangeAnimal" You can see what the orange looks like. Unfortunately it's on a fleetside but you can kinda imagine how it might look. Good luck picking a color. Hope to see more pics of it.

Re: I'm new here..Need help Thanks

I would clean it up and drop it. Leave the rally's or go with a classic 5 spoke wheel. As far as the color... depends how deep your pockets are :). Is the paint bad on it now... it appears to be a solid truck.

Re: I'm new here..Need help Thanks

no it needs to be done so i could be happy with it..the body has some rust on it but i am going to take care of..as color goes i don't know yet...i'm leaning to white,or a dark blue,or just repaint it black again

Welcome to the forum. Looks like a nice truck. Lowering the truck and changing the wheel size would change the look of the truck.

Re: I'm new here..Need help Thanks

Thanks it's not bad.i can't wait to start on it .need to save some money you know how that is..What i like about it is a 3speed on the floor but what sucks it's a v6..Can i change it to v8 and is it hard to do that..

Re: I'm new here..Need help Thanks

Looks like a good solid truck. One thing to keep in mind if you change the color is there is a lot more to paint. If you're cool with that then the possibilities are endless!

The V6 to V8 swap is fairly simple in these trucks. Not much to change with them other than the motor.

Damien 04-22-2009 12:03 PM

Re: I'm new here..Need help Thanks

You could build the 4.3 v6. Is it carb or TBI? A V8 stap will be cheaper, but you would be different. There are not many of these trucks with the V6 still in them. I've toyed with the idea of swaping the built carberated 4.3 from my s10 to my '83 and puting the stock 350 in the s10.

Re: I'm new here..Need help Thanks

DAMIEN i think it is TBI and how could i tell..You said i could build the 4.3 v6..but can i get good hp out of it..

Re: I'm new here..Need help Thanks

make it black, pound it, big polished 5spokes (no whitewalls!) then proceed to have the coolest truck in your family

Re: I'm new here..Need help Thanks

Throttle Body Injection. TBI is fuel injection.
I have '96 up Vortec heads on mine. Edelbrock vortec intake and carb, roller rockers, headers, ect. I hoping to have it on the chassis dyno in a few weeks, so I'll find out what it makes for sure.
Hot Rod Mag. did one in 2002 that made over 300hp naturally aspired at the flywheel. They built it with lower comp. so the could add a blower later and the vortec 4bbl intake was not avalible yet. They had to use ported early heads. I have seen others on the net. There is a guy at school that claims 300hp in a 2000 s10 with the stock fuel injection. I haven't seen a dyno sheet.
Heres a link.http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/e...ild/index.html
