Just got a '67 C20, A/T, 327, 8 lug... Where can I learn more?
 

I'm referring to options and such for this vehicle. What engine/transmission combinations were available? How bout rear ends and gearing? So on and so forth?

this is the #1 place for that kind of info.
in 67 there were 2 inlines, and 2 V8 engines.
250 inline 6 was standard in the CS and KS line, with a 292 being optional.
The CE and KE series had a 283 as base equipment (only year for that engine) and a 327 optional.
(the the letter designations are from the VIN.. first two digits... yours should be CE. The C means 2 wheel drive and K would be 4X4, E is V8 and S is inline... GMC also had M, standing for the V6 engines only offered in the GMC line up.)

Tell us more about yours and we`ll tell you what`s original.Git pictures?The 327 was the big motor in`67.If the differential housing is round it`s a Corporate HO52.Highest gearing is 4.10 and down rom there.If it`s not round it`s a Dana60.It could have 3.54s on down.It`s a Chevy,right?Chevys had coil rear suspension with leafs an option.GMCs are the opposite.

Also-
Small back windows were standard and the big back window was optional, air conditioning was optional and not common. 67's didn't have the marker lights on the front fenders and bed sides, that started in '68. The ignition switch bezel was smaller on the '67 too. Power steering was a ram assist unit instead of in the steering box.

I got this thing FOR FREE from my Mom's neighbor. He got it from is Dad YEARS ago and just never got into to. His wife told him to toss it so he told my Mom it was mine if I wanted it. I said yes ofcourse so he pulled it into the garage and it's been there for about a week now. I've only been there once so far to really look it over, and what I saw I really liked.

Okay, so I'll have to get the vin and see what's what. The previous owner told me that it originally had a 327 that his dad swapped out for a 350 at some point. And if I remember correctly, it has the round diffy housing, I don't remember the rear looking like a Dana, but I'll be sure to check that out too when I'm over there this coming weekend.

Let's say it is a Corporate rear, considering the 327 and A/T, what gear ratio is most likely to be in that thing?

Oh, another question I have is about stock tire height. The wheels/tires that are on it are not stock. What sizes were available on these things?

I'll take pics this weekend too.

pretty sure the eaton would have a 4.10 with a small block and automatic... I know it as fact on the later years... but 67 was a little funny on some details.
4.10 is the very most you could hope for... it only gets worse from there.

Yeah,I don`t think any automatic truck would have any lower gearing.I`ve never seen it.As a rule,manuals ran deeper gears than autos.

So out of curiosity, and just cause I love her :D I gave my Mom a call and asked her to get me the VIN as well as snap a few pics with her phone.

The VIN is CE247Z121251.

It has the small window.

It does in deed have a corporate rear in it.

So you're say'n it's most likely got 4.10's? Is the trans a TH400?

E - V8 gas motor
2 - 3/4 ton
4 - cab and bed
7 - 1967
Z - freemont build plant
121251 - 21251th chassis off that assembly line at that plant for that model year.

Listen to everything Andy (Longhorn Man) has to say. He's a freaking walking encyclopedia about our trucks, and I'm not trying to kiss his behind.
And, don't ignore what the other folks say. There is a wealth of info here, to say the least; and it's all FREE!!!!

You may want to pick up a copy of the Standard Catalog of American Light-Duty Trucks, or the Chevrolet Pickup Red Book

There's a ton of information there, especially concerning options and changes from 1 model year to the next.

Now for the important stuff, are you going up to Roseville Sat. for the "get together"?

Hey, also, neighbor (I'm in Rohnert Park)

I have a 67 C20 small window that came with HO52/4.10 open rear end, and did some research when I was planning my swap to 73+ 12 bolt, which I've completed.

1) in 67, 4.10 was the highest (num lowest) available in the HO52. The 20's only offered 4.56, deeper gears were available in the bigger trucks, I think.

2) with an auto, 4.10 is almost assured.

3) 99.99% chance it's an open rear end. I think posi/limited slip Eaton rears were available in other years/other trucks, but not 67 lt trucks.

4) This rear end, if supplied with oil, will almost certainly not fail you.

5) There are (were) aftermarket gears for these, I have a set of 3.90's if you want 'em. I have no idea how many miles they have, but they're in great shape.

6) PM if you're thinking of swapping with a 12bolt...I have a ton of brain stuff to share with you!

HaHaHa I just moved from Antioch in January! Lived just off of Deer Valley Rd for a couple years.

Jack up the rear end, and spin the tires. If they spin in the same direction, you have a limited slip diff. If they spin in the opposite direction, you have an open diff.

The vin info I typed out was just from memory... but there's a page on this site http://67-72chevytrucks.com/Chevyear.html that is very acurate... only a few things missing on it, but dead on for your rig, and 80% of the pick ups that are on here.
The standard catalog book el jay mentioned is great, the red book, I wasn't impressed with and gave away.
I have been collecting any and all lit I can get my hads on and have a good bit, I prefer old dated stuff, but some of the newer ones are ok too... ANYTHING you can get from the factory or dealer stuff is golden. I have stuff here that has never been published except to dealers.
Here's a link you'll want to book mark. I never did finish it, like the K seris stuff, or the 20 series... but it DOES still have a bunch of nice info for you...

The only traction aid available with a Corporate rear would be a locker (No-Spin).No posi/limited slip with that rear.Only 1/2 tons came in shortbed.Every 327 67/68 C/20 I`ve seen had a TH400.I can only speak from experience,no books.Except,I have a`71 dealer order book and a 46-72 truck parts book.So,I can get codes and trace part numbers if you need.The dealer book tells what you could get,what was required for certain options.But,experience has shown exceptions.

When it comes to engines and transmissions I'm VERY WELL versed, thanks to my Camaros, but now that I have this truck I'm being exposed to a whole new world, and I'm love'n it! :) And the warm welcome is VERY appreciated, I really do feel at home here! :) Oh, and I'll get some pics up this weekend, PROMISE!!! ;)

Okay, so if I wanted to put a Lock-Right or E-Z Locker in her, what size rear do I have to know which to get? 8.875"?

I'm also interested in doing the 5 on 5 axle/rotor swap when I upgrade to front disc brakes, any pointers here?

Only one carrier for this rear.Nothing made anymore.No-Spin was GM`s name for it.It`s actually a Detroit Locker.Look on the passenger side between the seat and door on the back wall.there will be a vehicle jacking warning label if it was equipped with a locker,if it`s still there.A trick that can be done is get the full-floating 14-bolt Locker that is available.Due to finer spline,you`ll need the shafts from a 14-bolt that will need something like 3/4-1" cut off the ends.You`d want to do your own sizing on that.But,that`s the general idea.Used original units are around.I`ve gathered 3 in the last couple years.These rears are tough.Finding a donar 14-bolt will be easy since they replaced the HO-series in`73 and kept on going in anything 8-lug.
You could stay with 8-lug andwhen you swap to disc if you want.Spindles up into the 88-ups work.There`s a tie rod diference to convert.Discs for the rear are avilable or easy to make brackets.There`s a board sponsoring vendor called Blackbirds that offers a specific kit or 14-bolt kits can be made to work.
