Project '66 Dirtrod: K-30 Extended Cab
After almost a year in the making, I’ve decided to start a build thread on my 1966 Chevy short-bed step-side.
The thing that started the ball rolling was picking up this ‘66 C-10, the body is pretty dang straight and a little bit of light rust, but overall in great condition. http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...in93/66010.jpg After deciding to go 4x4 with it we found this Mid 80’s 1-ton truck from which we stole the frame out from under it. http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...007-nov022.jpg We picked up a 14-bolt with a Detroit locker for the rear and a Dana 60 with a limited slip up front from a CU/CV military vehicle http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...in93/66001.jpg We did a disc brake conversion on the 14 bolt and added a little bling http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l.../122507012.jpg On the Dana 60 we went with high steer arms and Hydraulic assist from PSC http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...massist006.jpg We pulled the body off, torched the old brackets and random parts, and got the frame all cleaned up .http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...007-nov035.jpg http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...in93/08014.jpg After painting and priming the frame with rattle cans we put on 8-inch lift springs up front and 4 inch in the back with a shackle reversal. http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...in93/08021.jpg http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...arApr08002.jpg |
Re: My '66 build thread
For tires and wheels, we went with 38x15.50x20 Mickey Thompson MTZ’s and a set of American racing cannon wheels.
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...22507003-1.jpg As for the drive train, we went for a 468 with an extreme 4x4 comp cam, edelbrock carb, and heddman headers. Turbo 400 tranny and an np-205 transfer case. http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l.../engine003.jpg http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...py2of08008.jpg We cleaned it all up and here is how she sits now. http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l.../pwrstr003.jpg http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l.../pwrstr008.jpg http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l.../Photo1024.jpg http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l.../Photo1014.jpg The plan is to make the 66 body fit onto the mid 80’s frame. We are going to have a body shop turn the single cab into an extended cab, here is a poor quality photoshop of what I hope the finished product will kinda look like with the exception of the wheels. http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/l...ndlightbar.jpg |

Re: My '66 build thread
Holly crap!! How many gallons is that?
|
Re: My '66 build thread
37 gallon =]
|
Re: My '66 build thread
Looks sweet mean. That is going to be one big beast of a custom classic truck when you finish it.
|
Re: My '66 build thread
Yeah that's one big tank.....looks good....nice welds too.
I see you went with an ORD shackle flip in the rear. Is there a reason you didn't go with some 52's up front? |
Re: My '66 build thread
COOL tank!!
did you put baffles in it? |
Re: My '66 build thread
Those are the springs that my dad picked up as a surprise for me so i couldn't really tell ya. But yes we put a baffle in it. and the welds are my dad's. haha i'm still trying to learn to weld when we get a chance.
|
Re: My '66 build thread
I have been contemplating building a tank, how did you guys do the baffles?
any pics of the process? |
Re: My '66 build thread
You guys have too much off road crap. I see a dune-tire equipped Raptor and maybe a Rhino in the garage also. Man, I need to visit your place for a few days. That fab work is beauteous/clean and the suspension is insane.
|
Re: My '66 build thread
joe, we didnt get any pics while we welded it up but all we did was a plate centered int the tank going from front to back the full length and height. and put 2 1 inch holes in the bottom of that plate and stitch welded it in.

Re: My '66 build thread
Twiggy, thanks and yep we have a couple toys. my sister has a drag banshee, i have a stroked raptor, mommy has the long travel rhino. My dad has a cj-5 rock crawler on 49's and I have a mildly built yj on 36's.
