Re: door panels?
Have you seen anything from http://www.roddoors.com/ ?
I looked them up here in Canada and the package that includes the 2 doors, kick panels, headliner and a 3 piece deal behind the seats costs a whopping $2000. That is unfinished, as in no material covering the plastic they sell you. |
Re: door panels?
I know its crazy.
but Im fairly decent with fiberglass but I just need ideas to go after. Im set on part of one of their designs but it going to be hard to make a panel that isnt plain as hell looking. |
Re: door panels?
I made some for my Bel Air. I used 1/4" luan plywood and covered it with 1/8" foam glued to the plywood. I then covered that with vinyl from the fabric store and stapled it to the back of the luan.
I made a template using the original cardboard door panels. I drilled holes in all the right spots so I could reuse the factory stainless trim along with the door/window handles. Just a thought. It's easier to do than you think. I've got maybe $40 in all four door panels including the package tray. Here's a couple of pics. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/104_0033.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...r/104_0034.jpg |
Re: door panels?
I'm running roddoors, I've got some pics of them bare to give you an idea as to what they look like uncovered in my build thread. They also sell flat abs sheets to make your own. You need a heatgun to get it to form. Homedepot and lowes sell 4x8 sheet of plastic for bathroom walls that I've heard work aswell.

Re: door panels?
If you want to jazz up self-fabricated door panels so they're not simply plain you could always use the show rod technique.
1) Cut the the panel out of 1/8" fiberboard. 2) Cut a style element, such as a long flame lick, out of 1/2" pine and mount it on the panel. 3) Cover the whole with 1/8" closed cell foam and follow with vinyl, leather, etc. |
