1980 Rearend will it fit in a 69

Hey all,

I was cruising Craigslist and found a 1980 Chevy truck Rearend that was a good deal. I need a rearend for my 69, but not sure if it will fit or not.

Now I know that if the rearend is leaf spring (mine is a trailing arm) that a lot of mods would have to be done. But if the '80's rear is a trailing arm mount (did they still use trailing arm rears in 1980?) would it bolt up without a lot of mods needed?

Thanks

Yes,after you remove the leaf spring and shock mounts and install coil mount relocate shock mounts and fabricate a track bar mount for the housing.
Do you just need 5-lug axles or a new differential? You can use the`80 as a donor for the`68 housing.

Thanks for the replies so far!!

Now for a little more details. My 69 has the orginal 3.73 12 bolt with the axles (& front drums) redrilled to 5 lug. However I am about to install 5 lug disk setup from a 71. I'm running 8 x 15 Ralleys all around and want to use 71-72 axles to widen the rear as they sometimes rub the inside of the rear tubs. I have looked at a couple of the axles only for sale but i'm afraid that the cost of shipping will make them more than they are worth.

So yesterday I ran across a craigs list ad: 1980 posi-trac 12 bolt rearend out of a truck. So would the guts from this rear fit in mine?? Swapping the mounts out is more work that I want to get into. But if the innerds of hte 80 axle will work I could do that easy enough.

Thanks Again!!
